Thanks Steve... for the suggestions... yea that's what i've been doing is just running it from a shortcut..

....I am about to introduce some folks to this editor that are wanting to learn some mql4. (God help them) I will mention this thread in the process.. I already have a link to your site from my site. Actually when i saw the coding question earlier I was wondering if I was in the right place.. LOL

...I'm going to make a short video on how to install it and some of it's features although I don't think I know 10% of them. At any rate it's a great improvement on what's provided by our Russian friends.

....Let me get this straight because I don't want to tell them wrong. What I did on mine was unzip it in the crap/root folder and then do the "mklink /D include ..\include" from the scripts,libraries and indicators folder. Then i just make it my default program for mq4 files.. that's about it. Whenever i open an mq4 if opens in Scite.... Is that pretty much it?......

I just started using this IDE a couple of days ago. I only had two issues, I couldn't find out how to customize the astyle formatting defaults (hint: it's in the Commands.properties file, not SciTEGlobal.properties as stated in the wiki) and how to display content in the .chm help on Windows 7. The former I found by just poking around, the latter by a helpful post earlier in this thread (right-click on the docs/mql.chm file in Explorer and click "Unblock").

With those two things resolved, this thing is truly the bomb. Will, thank you sir!

Is there a way to add icons/commands to the toolbar? I would like to add Code Beautifier (astyle) and compile icons.

Hey presto. From the platform, open a file for editing, press the MetaEditor icon or the F4 key, and your file opens in ScITE. The only thing we haven't got is the transfer from SciTE back to the platform via the F4 key. Perhaps you could add this the next time you do an update, w633?

I am using the Strategy Tester (with Birt's Tick Data Suite -- indispensable IMO if you use the Tester). I just installed Scite in the root of C:\Empty4-Test, which is where my Tester version of Empty4 is on Win7.

I renamed MetaEditor.exe to MetaEditor.Old.exe (just so I could run it if I ever for some perverse reason wanted to). I made a copy of SciTE.exe, and renamed the copy to MetaEditor.exe.

For some reason, neither the MetaEditor icon in the platform toolbar, right-clicking the EA in the Navigator and choosing "Modify", nor the "Modify Expert" in the Tester launch the IDE.

Any ideas?

Nope. Those bastards at Crapperquotes really are shitheads. Come up with something to make their appalling bollocks work as you want it to, and they will spend thousands of dollars paying coders to make sure it will stop working. Stupid fuckers.

These days, I forget about launching Scite from within Empty4 and use a desktop shortcut instead. Works fantastically and cuts out the crap from the shitheads.

Funny thing is, my first Scite installation (what, 5 days ago?) was in a HotForex demo account. I still have that, and launching Scite from the platform there works just fine. But in my Tester platform (Alpari-US pro demo), nothing.

I notice that the HotForex install is build 445 (it's logged into Alpari, maybe that's why) while the Alpari/Tester one is 509. At any rate, launching Scite from within the platform seems to work on earlier builds. I wonder if MetaQuotes actually disabled this functionality in later builds...

Desktop shortcut is one workaround. Another is pinning it to the Start menu -- you don't have to minimize anything to get to it.

Certainly. First off, I have hacked together a way to create an api file from source using the existing sidebar functionality.

You need to tell SciTE to use a secondary mql.api file. I named it _mql.api and it is in the same directory as the first. To do this, modify mql.properties --

This:

The attached Sidebar.lua (uploaded as sidebar.txt since the board doesn't allow .lua) file adds an item to the context menu of the Functions/Bookmarks pane to "Save api". When selecting this, it will basically write the contents of that pane to the _mql.api file. Unfortunately, SciTE doesn't immediately re-read api files, you have to switch to a different file type (in another buffer) and then switch back. Working on that....

After running "Save api" on MultiBob, here's the Calltip (after the autocomplete, of course, since I had the case wrong :>)

I also changed the file mask to be *.mq4 so the directory view is immediately useful (for mql programming, that is).

EDIT: Updated mql.txt to include all constants.

what do you mean with "save api" on MultiBob... what's multibob?
So i rename that api.txt to _api.<what?>
and I rename sidebar.txt to sidebar.lua?

I'm not exactly sure what steps I need to perform to get the "save api" option

Multibob is an expert advisor that was on everyone's mind at the time. It was just an example, you can run the command on any MQ4 file that is loaded.

You don't change the apt.txt file, you configure a secondary api file by making the changes specified to mql.propertiies. The script will overwrite this secondary file every time you run it.

The script itself is included in the sidebar.txt file I attached. You put this in place of the existing sidebar.lua file, which gives you the Save Api menu item as well.

1. Does anyone know if there is a way to highlight a region of code in MQL4 native editor? Does w633+ updates afford such a facility?

2. I wonder if there is a ready made w633 version that includes all the above mods, including gheitman's :) Or do we necessarily have to install all the fixes manually?

Just beginning to look at coding.

i'm having a problem compiling a new ea. each attempt to compile has no redlines (compiler error messages), but I do see a message:
'"C:\fx\scite-mql-1.4.2"\other\refreshcrapt4.exe' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

what does that mean and where is it from? and anyone have an idea how to fix it?
