Both set to 15. Sadly, max martingale level I countered is 5. I had to use multiplier 3 to cover up double SL than TP. I am still trying to get something better.gaheitman wrote: That is a pretty curve. Is that with the higher time frame set to 15 or was the chart just 15 and the HTF is something else??

Hello.
I am the original author of this method.
I see some of you trying to improve the system, but I suggest that first you understand it correctly.
If you need any clarification that has not written before at FF, you can ask.

OK, I asked. Is the description I posted the same as what you're testing?

These 2 are wrong:garyfritz wrote:OK, I asked. Is the description I posted the same as what you're testing?
* If the market hits the short entry, I place an order to buy (stop and reverse) at the previous M15 bar's High.
you don't place another opposite PO for the same previous bar after you already enter a trade.
* I exit any trade at the end of the M15 bar, and do it all again.
you exit on SL or TP. not in any other case.

Re: Engulfing Outside bar
The EA only takes one trade per higher time frame bar. The code looks to see if you take out the high of the previous bar, and then places the sell if it takes out the low. It does not take another trade on that bar. It also takes no trade if price doesn't take out the second extreme, of course. The actual trades are placed at previous hi/lo +/- a small buffer. OOTB it is 1 pip.garyfritz wrote:In my testing, I'm seeing runs of as many as 13 losing trades. I wouldn't use a Martingale with my money.
But I'm only seeing around 50-60% wins. If you're rarely seeing runs of losses, maybe I've implemented something wrong. What win% do you get?
I am doing this:
* Assuming I'm running on M15, I look at the H and L of an M15 bar.
* I only trade if the H-L is greater than a specified minimum.
* If the market breaks the previous M15 bar's High, I place an order to sell at the previous M15 bar's Low.
* If the market hits the short entry, I place an order to buy (stop and reverse) at the previous M15 bar's High.
* I exit any trade at the end of the M15 bar, and do it all again.
* I also add TP and SL if desired.
Is that what you're testing? Are you testing on a 15-minute period using M15 bars? If so, can Empty4's System Tester tell if you hit the high or the low first? I test M15 using M1 bars to make sure I know which happened first.
If you drop the indicator I included on a chart, the lines should mimic the logic of the EA.

The EA has those two correct, at least.smilee89 wrote:These 2 are wrong:garyfritz wrote:OK, I asked. Is the description I posted the same as what you're testing?

Can't Martingale this system...makes no sense. No 1,1,3...or 1,2,4...etc. Trade is either right...or its gone.
One of the most powerful things about it is how tight stops are kept. Risk a few...make a bunch. Oooops...didn't work? Out...await next setup.
Anyway...all hands are on deck now...I'm sure you'll do great.
^one man's opinion.^

OK, that's easy to change. Doesn't seem to change much, though, at least the way my system is working now.smilee89 wrote:you don't place another opposite PO for the same previous bar after you already enter a trade.
Hm. So if it doesn't hit the SL or TP -- e.g. if you have a very large SL or TP -- then it could go many higher-TF bars before it closed -- presumably with a trailing stop. I guess that's what kenfen meant by "risk a little, maybe get a lot." If the market moved with you, you could possibly ride a trend for a long time.you exit on SL or TP. not in any other case.
George, I would try reverse-engineering your EA to make sure I'm using the same logic, but I have to confess I get a bit lost in the 4000 lines of code.
* If I have a tight TP and SL, the market will hit one of them fairly soon. That's pretty simple.
* If I have no TP/SL or use very large values, there are NO other exit cases, other than maybe a trailing stop?
* Do you allow multiple entries? I.e. if you're already long, do you allow another long entry to double up your position? If you're long and get a short entry, do you reverse to short? Or do you stop looking for entries until you exit the last position?
The way my system is working now, with a large (40 pip) SL and a 20 pip TP, I hit 67% wins and average 1.7 pips per trade. With a tiny 5 pip TP I hit 83% wins but the average trade is less than a pip. Trailing stops don't work as well as TPs.
I think this is still not working the way smilee uses it...

Parallel trades are allowed.
Opposite trades are allowed too.
If your b-r-o-k-e-r is in the us and hedging is not allowed, open different accounts for Long trades only and Short trades only.
