At the risk of being flamed....Both yesterday and today, I have received the following errors whilst the EA is trying to open trades. "NZDJPY Once a Day %27n Bob 1a OP_SELL order send failed with error(136): off quotes; 0: 0" Yesterday, it opened 16 of a possible 23, and today 15 of the possible 23. Can anyone advise why this occurring? A cursory glance shows that it seems to be the same pairs on which the errors occur... Thanks H :hi: |

Sorry to bring this up again - trades are opening fine, so I know that I have time set correctly but trades are not closing. Only once have all trades closed at the set time. On a number of occasions, of the trades that have not reached the TP, one or two trades have been closed at 4.00 p.m. but 4 or 5 remain open. So far, nearly all the trades that have been left open have reached their TP several days later, which is interesting. Two questions: 1. Any idea why the trades are not closing - as it is tried and tested code and is working for others, can only think it is something to do with the platform which I am running on a vps. 2. I will watch the open trades in more detail - at present I am leaving them open if it looks as though the trend is still in place looking at the 4H sma. Would it be worth testing only closing the trades if the trend has changed? The next day at 8.00 a.m. Once a Day'n Bob is not opening a new trade if the pair is still open. This would seem to combine the Once a Month and Once a Day approaches. Thanks |

Hello everyone. I have been a passive member here for some time now – gratefully soaking up all the knowledge & experience that is offered up by the many prolific posters. In keeping with the spirit of this excellent forum, I thought it was about time I stepped off the sidelines & joined in the debate. ‘Once a Day ‘n Bob’ has inspired me to do so. I landed on this thread on Friday afternoon & immediately liked the idea of a Basket approach to Bob’s principles of trading. I downloaded the EA and dragged it on to a chart on my GlobalPrime Demo account. Other than setting the FridayTradeOpenHour input to 14:00 (local UK time), all settings were straight out of the box. The EA proceeded to open up 22 trades, nice I thought – it works! I had to go out for a couple of hours, so I left it running to see what happened. When I returned I noticed all the positions had closed. On closer inspection I discovered that the entire basket had been closed when the basket TP of 75 pips was reached – now I was excited! I began to wonder about the potential of this EA and this method of trading and have been playing around with ideas all weekend. For what its worth, I thought I would put some of my thoughts & ideas down here in the hope that I can in some way contribute to the development & refinement of this system. The main attraction for me of this Basket approach, is that we are spreading our risk within a diverse portfolio of currency pairs. In a similar way to how a Casino or bookmaker takes the other side of every trade it’s punters make, there are winners & losers, but because it has the statistical edge, it always comes out on top. Here trading in the direction of the Monthly candle & long term trend defined by Bob’s 240 LWMA on the 4H chart provides that edge. However I can’t help thinking that the edge can be improved by adding an additional filter to select the pairs to be traded in the basket that will most likely yield strong moves in the predicted direction. Given that the EA takes trades in the direction of a long term trend, surely it would be helpful to only select pairs that are actually trending, or eliminate pairs that are ranging. That is where I believe CSS comes in and along with some of Baluda’s other CSS based indicators, the basket can be optimised. For example, the current 24 pair CSS on the D1 TF clearly shows that USD & AUD are a long way apart & have been diverging for some time, and therefore are a currently good pair to add to the basket. Analysis of that pair’s Daily chart backs that analysis up. Monthly open is delineated by the white horizontal line and the 40 LWMA is equivalent to Bob’s 240 on this time frame. However for most of July the CSS lines were close together & running parallel, indicating ranging behaviour. As such the pair would not have been a good candidate for the OAD basket at that time. This leads me onto another Baluda indicator – ‘Slopevalues’. This serves as a dashboard to identify the trading and ranging pairs. My current D1 Slopevalues are showing 6 pairs currently ranging i.e. they are between -0.4 & 0.4. As such they could be eliminated from the basket, leaving 18 pairs. (One thing that puzzles me is that the SlopeVcalues do not quite match the CSS diff values. Please forgive my ignorance if I haver misunderstood the functionality of this indi.) So I will set the OAD EA off again when the new trading week kicks off again with these 18 pairs & see what happens. I have more thought & ideas about this system, but they will have to wait for now. Thank you Steve for this EA, I believe it has real potential. |

Today: 11 Trades triggered out of the basket of 18. I kicked them off at 02:00 UK time in an attempt to catch any decent moves in the Asian session. I didn't go any earlier as the spreads are too high. 5 hit their ATR profit target. EURCAD & GBPCAD were losers due to big counter-trend moves. I manually closed the remaining basket a 18:00 for a net profit of 51 pips. Not bad for a Monday. I had set the basket TP to 500 to try to allow as many pairs as possible to reach their potential, but I might reduce that for tomorrow's basket. My issue is that a basket TP limits potential profit, but without any kind of SL, losses are theoretically unlimited. With 2 hours to go until the end of the daily candle SlopeValues is showing 4 ranging pairs that I will eliminate from tomorrow's basket. I'll set it off again before going to bed. |

Don't trade anything that is 'an issue' for you. Instead, find something that is not. Trade any other way, and you will lose a lot of money. You must be completely at one with a trading system you set lose on your live account. To be honest, you are better off devising your own trading system. Guess how I know? |

Thanks Steve. By 'issue' I meant a point worthy of consideration, not a negative perception. What is an issue for me is repeatedly taking Stop Losses that gradually erode the account, only to see the market move in the anticipated direction. Hence the attraction of this basket approach. |

Today: All 20 pairs in the basket had trades. I set the basket TP to 250 which was hit as 16:33 UK time. Going forward, I wont SPAM this tread with daily results, but I will keep on testing this. |
