It has been a few weeks since I last posted. The markets went to sleep for a couple of weeks and I took zero trades. I had a few health problems that needed me to rest up for a while. I was still able to trade but a low limb operation made it uncomfortable to sit at the computer whilst the wound healed.

During my recovery, the markets went heavily against me. On the face of it, last week was magnificent:

I made two beginner mistakes:
  • I traded all three XAU pairs in the same direction - short.
  • I refused to close the orders when the markets moved against me, trusting to positive swap to help me out.
So I had sell trades on all three XAU pairs as the markets moved up. And up.And up.And up.And up.And up.

My account was heading for serious trouble when I decided to add total hedge trades. Good thing I did as the markets continued to rise and rise and rise. Leaving the position alone would have blown the account. I took a number of basket trades as xauusd rose and so netted a few profits. The account balance and equity rose slowly but the DD fell not a jot.

xauusd is now ridiculously high and there was a big sell off on Friday - not far short of 1,000 pips. The moment that GoFX changed colour, I closed the hedge - hence the massive number of pips.

Three lessons have emerged for me from all this:
  • Do not fight the market. OK, so only trade in the direction of positive swap but close down when the market moves against me. You would have thought I would have learned this by now. :arrrg:
  • Do not trade multiple pairs in the same direction. You would have thought I would have learned this by now. :arrrg:
  • xauusd is a magnificent pair to trade. I can see me trading this pair only once the dust has settled. Watch this space.

It all depends on the final date we chose for the report. It ignores results from after the End Date input.

We need to input an End Date that will include all results up to and including our Start Date, until today. We do not want to continually update our End Date, so we choose one in the far distant future.

Mine would probably show something around about 2029. This is just a quirk of TradeReport. Nothing to quibble about - merely something to be aware of.

Sure, you got my attention and the link from Steve's weekly, simply curious about the Buy trades.

The original post says to use on 4H which you did, and trade only direction of positive swap, which to the best of my knowledge is to sell Gold.

How and where did you manage to squeeze in the Buy trades?

Given that Gold has been in an uptrend for the last 10 days or so due to decline of USD, did the buy trades do better than the sell trades, including the swap rates?

Hello,

I've allowed buy and sell trades to see how ea performs. Out of 22 orders (2 more XAUEUR orders closed in profit since my last post) 9 stayed overnight (4 longs, 5 shorts), so the impact of the negative swap was minimal (total swaps: -2,25 USD).

I'll continue this test and share results with you.

I've almost cancelled this project. Due to my mistake, I didn't add 240 BUY.SELL.NOW.ALERT indicator and performance was really bad (account started 2024.04.04). After I fixed the problem, all has changed and it's looking great now. Thank you to all who participated in creation of this ea.

I'm going to open another demo account to see how it runs on aud, chf, gbp, jpy vs xau too.
