Post subject:  Re: Gday: a D1 Stochastic OB/OS trading robot

My Semi Auto demo has expired with a small profit in hand but still had open trades that were in drawdown (but starting to come back). Given this was over the Christmas/New Year holiday period, it was a good opportunity to test the entrance's and monitor how the ea works.

I have still got my full auto demo which has been running since 27/12 (so only has about a week left as well) & has not seen much success, again due to the holiday period but also I think I had the rules for entry for the ea too tight (for a full auto entry) and it was taking trades when the signal line had just touched ob/os levels and most times due to low momentum turned straight back in.

I think for the auto entry the ea needs a hand to read the signals so a couple of days ago I adjusted the ob/os entry levels to 78 & 22 in the ea to just provide a small buffer before the ea enters.

Since I have changed the ob/os levels the ea has taken the following trades:

EURUSD Buy 0.03 1.27686 - Trade moved to BE+2, closed 1st part of trade to lock in profits, trade moved further into profit, but then retrace caused the balance of the trade to close at BE+2 (Price has since turned again and continued up) - Total pips +49

EURJPY Buy 0.03 97.901 - Trade moved to BE+2, closed 1st part of trade to lock in profits, 2nd part of trade closed at +112, last portion of trade still running, with jumping stop at +100 - Total pips locked in right now are +262

GBPUSD Buy 0.03 1.53437 - This trade was almost identical to the EURUSD trade, it moved to BE+2, closed 1st part of trade to lock in profits, went up a bit further but trade was knocked out on the retrace, price has since gone back in our direction. Total pips +54

AUDCHF Sell 0.03 0.98420 - Trade moved to BE+2, locked in profits +50, 2nd part closed at +108, 3rd part still running, currently stop has moved to +50, so total pips locked in at the moment are +208, with potentially more to come.

AUDCAD Sell 0.03 1.05427 - Trade was closed by the cross of the stoch, just before it started to move into positive territory. Total pips -7 (price did then move down to +58 pips & has since retraced again)

All up +566 pips locked in :D

So these look like much better entries taken where price action had been confirmed a little further.
At this stage moving forward I am not starting another semi auto demo, I will continue to run the full auto version until it expires ( I want to see if I can get back into the black with it ;) ) and will start a new full auto demo then with the new entry settings.

Salut Gamma,

I just checked and I don't have any suspicious processor activity with the Empty4 running Gday.

Regards
Alex
Gamma_gallus wrote:Good Evening !!

Has anyone having the same use of the processor ??

I have 6 Empty4 running (3 MBT, 2 Cowboy IBFX AU and 1 FX Open)

Gday on FXopen constantly uses 30% of my processor .. quite strange.
Whereas any other Empty4 instance aren't using it most of the times. (only Hannover requires some memory, which I can understand)

GDay is pretty much straight forward and simple, so I don't think the EA needs so much use of the processor, I'm more suspecting FXOpen Empty4 running some background processes ... but for what !?!?

thx
Gamma

Shelley, you might like to consider an Cowboy IBFX Aussie demo; these do not expire after a month so long as there is some trading activity.

A couple of weeks before Christmas, the bot took some nice profits, then gave them all back plus some the following week, then a bit more when the markets opened again after Christmas. In all, my demo with at start of $2000 went up to about $2018, then down to about $1970. This is not a fair reflection of the strength of your system; nobody in their right minds would have traded it live during this period. I left Gday running out of curiosity.

In the spirit of 'let's see how long it takes to get back' I left the demo running. So far, back up to $1982, so looking really good.

My demo took pretty much the same trades as yours today, plus nzdchf that is at BE+2 at the mo. I too have moved to 78/22.

3 new trades tonight: all GBP/aud/cad/nzd - allbuys.

The remaining part of that NZDCHF closed out for +52 (using 50 JS).

All my instincts and everything I have learned goes against accepting multi-trades on the same currency in the same direction. It something happens and GBP tanks, then all 3 hit the skids.

Shelley, you have been doing this longer than the rest of us. Leaving aside whether you would have taken the trades in the first place and assuming all your conditions were met, would you take a similar position, or limit yourself to fewer trades?

Hi all,

Since my last post on the performance of Gday on 15th January, the bot has recovered from all the losses incurred during the pre-christmas and new year periods and more.

OOTB + Rsi trend detection + stochs recently changed to 78/22.

The results attached below.

Cheers,
Peter

I agree completely, for me it was really an exercise to watch how the ea worked, made sure that it was functioning as intended and to confirm what we know in regards to trading over the Christmas holiday period...I'm really looking forward to see how it now performs over the next month or so.

My demo also took gbpaud & eurchf this morning but I screwed up my dates and this demo also expired today.
Checking my charts the trades still open eurjpy is now +226 (jumping stop at +150), audchf is now at +131 (jumping stop at +50)

The trades taken this morning gbpaud is pretty much at the open price and eurchf is slightly down.

Steve, I have now set up an Cowboy IBFX demo (which will start on Monday), I already had an account with them but don't trade with them anymore, and had forgotten their demo's don't expire.

Steve, when trading demo I just let everything go, but when I was trading the system on my live account, I was very selective about which trades I would take and to not over trade the one currency. Trading manually if there were 3 trades with confirmed set ups like your gbp trades, I would visually check the signals and take the trade with the strongest signal...that may have been determined by either how far out of ob/os the signal line had moved, and/or the angle of the stoch's. Basically the steeper the angle of the stoch, then the stronger the momentum.

Unfortunately, I doubt we can do that with an ea, however if I was to trade live with the ea (which I definitely hope to), I would be using the zeljko function and OnlyTradeCurrencyTwice. As confident as I am with the system, I have seen the markets go haywire as well and I have worked too hard to jeopardise my live account by overtrading one currency.

The other thing to remember also, you are using the ChillOutShelley function that will take every trade as soon as it crosses 78/22 irrespective of the time of day, so yes you are going to get every possible trade as the ea will fire as soon as conditions are met.
With StrictDisciplinarian (which I am using), it will only take the trade if the conditions are met at the open of the daily candle, my demo this morning only took the gbpaud trade as gbpcad/nzd hadn't met conditions at that time. By tomorrow's open those trades won't be taken as trading conditions have passed, so by default multiple trades will be less of a problem in this scenario.

Thanks Shelley. Most helpful.

In fact, I am using the strict thingy. This looks like one of those different crim = different feeds = different results thingies.

We may find that we need a trade-at-x-hour input rather than the current trade at the open of the new D1 candle for you to replicate your live trading. We shall see.
