I worked out that I averaged about 7 trades a day since I started so hopefully focusing on just 1 trade a day will improve my stats. Let's see if I can pull a rabbit out of a hat.

I'm not sure I totally agree with you Jeremy. It seems to me that when the market is trending this works perfectly and we should take every "good" set up that comes along. Perhaps a different approach is to trade small when win% is down (non-trending) and when the win% starts increasing then bump back up to the full 1% or whatever your max risk is?

Just a thought.

Cheers,
Dave.

That's what I'd do. If it only works in trending markets, figure out a way to distinguish "working" from "not working" conditions, and adjust your size accordingly.

Yep I agree with you guys but I also have to adapt my trading to fit my lifestyle. I can keep an eye on charts and look for the best setup and focus on that one pair for the day but trying to follow 7 trades a day doesn't work for me at this time. I also think I may have been jumping in to too many potential setups a bit too early so this will force me to really think hard before I pull the trigger on that 1 trade a day.

hi to all,

for the people that are working during the day, maybe very useful put an alert by Email into CSS code that inform you each time there is a change of color.
I'am trying tu do this, but I'm not a great coder

Agreed Jem, but with a twist. In some of my weekly analysis, i see that sometimes there are 3 or more setups at a single time. Post that, there may not be a valid setup for a day or two. In such a scenario, taking only one a day may not be the optimum things to do.

If you were chasing average 7 trades a day, going down to only one would be unjustified. I believe it's better to go for at-least two trades a day, the best two setups presented in the cluster at any given point of time.

Been watching a pattern on the lines of 10.4 - with specific twists - for quite some time now and it's holding consistently. Will try to give more time to it.

Cheers, :)

I enjoy reading the different variations of 10.x systems but I had to jump in here. When the market is not as clear or is fluctuating wildly but I still see trades, I will lower my lot size. I am recognizing the risks of the moment yet also dont want to just drop out and not trade. So lowering lot size is a good way to handle markets that seem to be in the mud puddle.

Good job Jemook, I like your variations and insights.

Jemook wrote:Ouch! The account is hurting big time. Even with trying to keep my losses small I'm struggling to catch on to a trend. I can see AUDUSD and EURUSD were great trades this week but I didn't enter them for some reason. Not sure if this lacklustre performance is cause I may be too busy with other things to be able to focus on this properly but I'll try and work out if something needs changing.

Ahh.. The ever elusive crack to the FX code still eludes me
Jem- I think your flavor of 10.4 looks promising for me. Two of my demo trades would not have lost if I had followed your rules last week .

I have been testing some bots to set and manage 10.4 trades for five weeks now. The first two weeks had great gains (because just about every thing was trending) the last three have been bad and this last week was the worst since each demo lost. But my losses have been much less than your 5k FXCM account (which looks like it has been losing about 5% a week).

My test results from the four accounts for the weeks ending:
6/22/13 From +.02% To -1.34%
6/29/13 From +0.0% To -2.94%
7/06/13 From -0.06% To -1.66%

I wonder why our results are so different when your selection criteria to enter trades looks better to me than the basic 10.4 rules. Here is what I have been trying:

I have been testing four different mixes of settings to see what seems to work the best. Each account has 5 pairs. I used two mixes ; the first was simply the five pairs with the greatest absolute Daily Slope Values above .6 (High Correlation Set).
The second mix would substitute lower Daily Slope Values so that no single currency would be in more than two pairs.(Low Correlation Set).
The other thing I was testing was ATR settings for stop loss, take profit and instant trailing stop. I used a 2 to 1 reward to risk ( 1.25 stop with 2.5 TP)
I have been using 1.25 and 1.5 times the daily ATR for the last 7 days. I set the lot size for each pair so that the maximum risk is $100 USD (2% on 5K) Total Risk is 10% . I use a self hacked version of MPTM to use the add missing stop loss setting with use ATR stop option to enable the instant trailing stop to be based on ATR. I also am using the global order close to close at $300 (6%gain) profit and shirt protection at -$200.00(4% loss). My target weekly gain is 5%. I only take 1 trade per pair and close any open trades Friday afternoon- win or lose.

When every thing was going up the low correlation at 1.25 ATR produced the best results but in the last three down weeks the high correlation 1,25ATR has done the best.

Hello Peeps,

can anyone please post the link to the CurrencySlopeStrength1.0.7d for automation.mq4, I have been trying to find that Gizzmo so that I can use it with something else.

Happy Trading Y'all,

Trading one trade a day is a lot better on my mind. I'll only place a trade if I can get better than 1:2 risk to reward.

Yesterday I took a EURUSD setup as per the rules but you'll see my stop is much tighter. Risking 40 pips to make 140 pips so risk:reward of 1:3.5 or risking 1% to make 3.5%.

Cheers NB for 2 years+ your systems have been the foundation of how I trade. Thanks :)
