Did you place the .ex4 file into the \Indicators folder and restart Empty4?

The icon of an indicator for which you have the .mq4 file looks like:


Whereas the icon of an indicator where the .mq4 is not present looks like:


Do you notice the little blue '+' sign on the second one?

I'm fairly sure I am using the correct file path

C:\Program Files\Go Trader Empty4\MQL4\indicators

Once the file is downloaded to my computer, it shows in my download folder as a page type icon with the top right corner "folded down". Does that sound correct?

The only way I have managed to have anything appear in the navigator window was via metaeditor and saving as unicode, which I didn't think would work because of the lack of code when I opened the file.
The result there was the same as the second pic you posted, with the blue sign, and a dead end.

Instead open the correct folder from within Empty4 by clicking File -> Open Data Folder. From there open the MQL4 subfolder and the Indicators folder. That is the correct place to store your HGI indicator. Restart Empty4 and you should be fine.

change in the EA settings the indicatorname and done...
