Sorry, but you are wrong... If you see any liveupdate.exe, it is an obsolete file from previous versions. Did not tracked it at 100% but the exe is included in the main "terminal.exe" since build 48x (x=2 or 3). The only way preventing updates it is denying admin access when prompted. Or go back to 451/452 build and delete the "liveupdate.exe".
the Empty4-update is now controlled by a different terminal.exe, can be found in:
C:\ProgramData\MetaQuotes\WebInstall\mt4clw\

the 'ProgramData' folder is hidden, you have to make hidden files visible first. just rename this exe, no autoupdate-prompt anymore.

this works with windows7, under other os it might be a different path.

what file do you believe does get the updates?
Today I've got some research, may tell a list of MQ update servers which does not matter since they get the updates form the broker. Thus you can block all IP's but cant block the broker (or all of this would not make any sense)

Oh... he/she :) is right, renaming/deleting the same exe here "terminal.exe" stopping any updates :) thanks for that!

Hm, my [...]\mt4clw\ is empty. Is this using 500 on a clean PC?

If you look at the terminal.exe size before and after, it looks like they integrated the liveupdate into the terminal.exe
yes, i installed it via web-installer from my broker. but in the meantime i saw, that the renamed terminal.exe in this folder was renamed back to original. maybe placing something different with the name 'terminal.exe' and write-protecting could help, i'll try.

in C:\Users\**Username***\AppData\Roaming\MetaQuotes\Empty4 4 Terminal\ there are also some subfolders with liveupdate-stuff. seems every folder is for another Empty4-instance on the computer. maybe there one can do something against the update as well.

  • Cowboy IBFX Aussie wankers have blocked my live trading account again because I am running an 'old' version' of Empty4 – proving yet again that these bastards are in cahoots with the cowboys at Crapperquotes to separate all of us from our cash. Ok, so I do not reslly care because this is my tiny play-money account, but I would be cross if I had deposited $50,000 with them. Not that I would be that stupid. Nor should anyone else. Never deposit live cash with these cowboys. That is Cowboy IBFX Aussie, guys.
Now guys, take this next sentence really seriously. Anyone stupid enough to post, "All you have to do is........" gets banned. I know, ok?

Guess how I know? If you are too dim to work it out for yourself, here is how. I did it only a few weeks ago, and will do so again in the morning. So shutup if you know what is good for you.

For the terminally slow on the uptake, the point I am making is this: the market makers and Crapperquotes are in cahoots. Crapperquotes do what they do because the market makers allow them to, because it is in the mm's best interests to screw their 'valued clients' at every possible opportunity; one of their many opps is to allow Crapperquotes to behave as they are doing right now.

Not sure where this leaves Global Prime, whose best interests are served when their account holders do well. Stuck between a rock and a hard place? I leave it to Jem to comment. Just so you know guys, I still have total faith in GP - otherwise I think I would be closing my account, shutting down this forum and taking as part-time job stacking shelves in the local supermarket to fill the empty hours not spent running this forum.

We looked at it; it is quite difficult to get an answer from Modulus via email regarding price...

Finally got a "Chat Support Chap" to cough out that an individual trader license would be $5750.00 (!)

There's a saying about a scotsman and a penny, so we didn't bite the hook...

We did hear from them that they are "working" on a translator to run MQL4 without the need to reprogram for M4. If M4 wasn't so bloody expensive... they should charge a subscription like Adobe Creative Cloud does, instead of asking us to buy them a new car on the first date !!!!!! :lol:

UPDATE: Richard Gardner of Modulus Financial Engineering, Inc. sent us an email regarding this thread, so Modulus does read what we write here. He is a "let's chat on the phone" type, so we encouraged him to embrace e-commerce in full and post a buy-it-now retail price on his website for individual traders. If and when he publishes such a price, we will update this post. Two quotes he asked us to share with the board:
$5,750 is for source code with one year of developer support, that allows you to redistribute your software to an unlimited number of traders. In other words, for $5,750, you have the right to sell, give away or lease the software to other traders. We do not charge royalties.

$5,750 is not for a personal license for just one trader.

It would be very thin and light.

So, since all of us coders speak some form of C and learn fast, I think if M4 was available in an affordable format, he'd have A LOT of interest, no? It is an awesome platform.

What is the best plaform for trading? NinjaTrader? maybe GP can provide the best platform for exlusive trader.. if there any additional cost for trader i think it should be ok because we can get best platform for trading at GP..

I spoke to a programmer friend on a possible solution to the forced Empty4 updates. Perhaps there could be a method to prevent the terminal.exe from being changed or other certain files from being changed. antivirus software can detect this; maybe someone could program a script that can constantly watch certain folders for changes and even prevent those changes from occurring.

The update files have to be put somewhere on the local computer, so these files could be deleted or blocked.

Well they don't really, there's no reason why terminal.exe itself can't know its own version, check what the latest Empty4 version is that the broker supports (no dialing home to MetaQuotes required) and then download a new version. It doesn't really need a separate executable do to this. Also as I said before, its trivial for MQ to push a new server version to the broker that denies all client connection requests below a given build number (they're already doing this), so even if you could prevent an update on your end what good would it do when it can't connect and can't trade?

All this talk of how to stop Empty4 updating is a wild goose chase, a waste of time. Either we put up with whatever MQ dishes out and hold our bowls up & say "please sir can I have more?" or we find an alternate platform.

If a significant number of traders coordinated a week of absolutely no trading with their Empty4 brokers for the same week, brokers would feel the pain and indirectly metaquotes who seem to have become too arrogant and/or suicidal, would be pressured by the brokers.

I have been looking at JForex and TradeStation, perhaps its time to start a slow migration by trading live with different platforms and over time spend more time with the better platforms and less and less with crappy Empty4.

As soon as my current project with MQL is complete I will be starting my slow migration to a better platform.

Voting with one's feet is the simplest form of protest, why do we continue putting up with this crap any longer?
