Hi SK - I'm glad that you started this thread. I saw your posts amongst the other threads but was keen to see how you traded these ideas in greater detail. I prefer shorter TF given the limited time I can spend on being in the market, however as you know shorter TF also provide many false signals/fakies etc. WI am interested to know with your set-up how do you filter these out?

Edit - must have been typing as you posted extensive answer above, disregard my post!

Post subject:  NT indicator settings

I have just started to explore the NT indicator. I am only using the Diff and the Cross slopes presently but as I trade it within the setup I may start to use even more lines. It just seems more clear to me to start with these two because they seem to be the most reactive. The indicator looks very clean this way. However I will be exploring the indicator by placing multiple indicators on a chart with all the different possible settings and studying them as to gain insight into possible new ways to use the indicator. I hope every one will contribute to find the best way to trade the indicator. I hope you all enjoy the setup.

slowkey, quick question - on how many concurrent charts do you have the NT indy running - I tried to replicate your setup yesterday on 10 charts which killed my Empty4 after restart.....

Just wondering...

Cheers & thanks for sharing your setup

Well it is rather resource hungry indicator I have noticed. However I have two Crims. A standard account with Oanda and a micro account with Cowboy IBFX. I am running both Empty4 setups at the same time on a Del 17 inch laptop with the I5 processor and 4 gigs of memory. I eventually will bump this up to about 8 gigs of memory. It does slow to a crawl every once in a while if I change profiles. I am running about 26 pairs on each one. I have the bars set to 300 on the indicator. I am going to drastically reduce this setup down to about 10 pairs each. I really just have a few pairs I like to trade. I trade on a real nice laptop stand with my feet up in the air , doctors orders. I do have an FX AMD 8 core processor based computer I built myself with 8 gigs of memory and running up to 4 gigahertz. Crap t4 can hang up on what is basically a super computer. I think it has to do with what version of Empty4 you use. Oanda use build 432 and Cowboy IBFX 419. Oanda seems to run better.

Have you tried it using with the maxBars setup to a value between 50 and 150....this should ease the resource hunger and should be enough for active trading.

Just a thought...

happy sunday,

This freeze effect should only take place when you start all charts/indicators at once and at the start of Empty4...just wait...after the initial freeze time it should work much smoother.
Also if you change the TF the calculations need to be redone...

I don't know if you know how the CSS-SP calculation works....for each chart/pair the TMA is calculated for all with this currency pair related pairs. This means the TMA of 13 different pairs is calculated for each chart/Pair and each bar. Multiply that with your 26 pairs....that means that 338 TMA calculations are in place for each new bar and this is only one part of the calculation... ;)
Any decent computer shouldn't have any problems with this...if we could have another platform then Empty4....;)

I don't have much more optimization possibilities in Empty4 other then to program this as dll. And this will not happen... ;)

As I wrote before, if you use it in active trading it would be wise to setup maxBars to a appropriate level.

happy trading,

NeoTrader

P.S.: regarding you other question by PM the next Version will deliver this feature...coming up soon.

Edit: look at my new announcement... here new release is already out... ;)

happy Sunday,

Post subject:  New setting

I updated the package in post 1 and the changes are described there. I will try to start posting some reads for the indicator. I believe the indicator is showing over sold and over bought levels and hope to find the best settings to show this. Looking forward to a good week of trading.
Cheers
Doug

Post subject:  Example of 3 possible trades

nt indicator and macd.gif
GBPJPY Hourly Chart

The NT indicator in True TMA mode and being traded that way by me. So I am not using this indicator as Bob did in his wonderful NB10.2 system. My setup is for analysis and needs to be in this mode. So I am using a ATR of 40 and a Period of 12 presently.

I turned off the true TMA line for clarity. I think from looking at the True TMA line I get some confirmation on what I thought is happening with the Diff. That the Diff is doing a good job of showing the effect of flows from different EUR cross pairs for instance making it a little more accurate of current conditions to trade with.

None of these examples were made here as a result of an analysis based on my setup. They are only shown as examples of how we might be able to interpret and use Price, MACD and the NT indicator for entry and exits. Saying that though the 3rd example would fit within the scope of how I use the setup.

Above is an example of 3 possible trades just taking clues from MACD, NT indicator and Price. In the first down trend trade that is illustrated we have the MACD rather flat. MACD will do this a lot having reset to the base line or water line if you will. This trade starts to develop very subtlety but I think if you compare price, MACD and the NT indicator you get a good entry. MACD and the NT indicator work very well to confirm each other with there crosses down. Alone it would not be so clear. I am working to try to get a read on what is over sold and over bought on the NT indicator but you can see MACD again confirms with a cross up the exit. There is plenty of information with the Bull Candle if your familiar with candles to confirm exit. It is my hope we can find a level number that signals over bought and oversold conditions on the NT indicator.

Now the second area is a real subtle zone of entry. The clues start to mount that a entry is forming. We see a cross on the NT indicator and some separation but not dramatic. MACD has been flat but the MACD line and the signal line cross down over the water line. I would not want to trade this based just on MACD but I think there is enough here when looking at the two indicators to make an entry. Exit again seem to be a mildly oversold area on the NT indicator which would make sense with a pair in a slight uptrend. The MACD cross is confirmation if we had any doubts but I would be out before than.

The third Entry and Exit are more than clear. They fit well into my setup and normal analysis. I would suspect these kind of entries to be a lot a like when there is a cross into the prevailing trend. The exit I would not be to worried about. Moves into the trend I want to milk but I think it is clear when MACD is overbought that the NT indicator Diff and Cross are already Diverging back to the Zero line. You could hang in there to an apparent cross though.

Just an Edit ... The third trade I would have been out of Friday Afternoon. What you are seeing is an Oanda Chart and Oanda trades 24-7. But after 4 on Friday Spreads are huge. So that would have been 2 or 3 candles back.

I like your ideas with MacD. I'll look into this more when I get home. Cheers sk.
