We have 4 days off. I bought some steaks, baked potatoes, and a homemade salad. Still an American at heart. |

Yeah I traded the NfP, got it right too. USD strengthen off the news. The news was especially good so I decided to ride my winners. Was up over 300 pips at one point and then the dang things went right back to their starting point. Closed out with less than a 100 pip profit. Man I really thought that news was good enough for a good 4 hour run and possibly a breakout by the USD into next week. But no. |

I have enjoyed living in your country but the steaks here are terrible. Occasionally I can get my hands on a good NZ steak. When I go home its one of the first things I go get. Iowa corn fed beef steak, thick cut seared on both sides, lightly covered with salt and pepper, and a nice pinkish red in the middle. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm |

Eh? You've been to Malaysia? Or are you refering to China? Coz honestly i wouldn't go western here. Plus, good spices are hellava hard to procure here. Its always pepper n five spice. Haven't seen decent oregano or thyme anywhere. :/ |

I guess my answer is: range! Then the TMA channels would work on lower timeframes (H1, M15?). 1. But when to switch to the TMA? If price hits the MA60 line? OK, that's a basic EDSEL rule. 2. And when to switch back to trend trading? The obvious answer is when price breaks out from the range. But determining this is a problem, since range trading is about sell at the top of the range and buy at the bottom of the range, while a breakout requires you to do the opposite trade. When and where to stop your "range-like trade"? That's my dilemma. Not to mention fake breakouts... |

Hi, Zimezoom That´s a very difficult question. Most methods to know when range is finished and trend resumes are, as most indicators, lagging. Once you realize the trend is back is too late to enter, at least to catch the first swings. Horizontal ranges are also relative as we can see often wedges up and down that give a fake feeling of trend (as it happens all the time in EURUSD) but that are going nowhere. Actual market is, as Bob pointed yesterday, Zzzzzz, but we can take same profits using the 60 instead of 240 as the trend defining MA. It´s a kind of zoomed Edsel. Someone said price only is trending 30% of time, so we must learn range trading tricks. Of all methods I know to determine that the trend is back this is my favourite: draw in the chart three simple moving averages: 30, 50 and 100. If all three are running paralelle price is trending. If they cross each other (one little cross is enough), price is ranging or going nowhere. But, the most difficult and wise system to detect big reversals and the first steps of a new trend are, no doubt, related to the knowledge of market structure, volume, buying and selling climax, etc. I have tried to study them with no succes until now, but I´m aware that the great traders are those who can recognize a new trend at its first steps. |

Hi Zimezoom, Or you can go look at the D1 CSS and see that all the currency lines are bunched together inside of the 20 lines. The only currencies that are outside of the 20 lines are GBP and AUD, therefore the only pair that is trending to the upside is the GBP/AUD. The strong currency is GBP cause is above the plus 20 line and AUD is weak because is below the minus 20 line. You can also read it this way.... GBP is strong and trending up and AUD is weak trending down in opposite directions right now, therefore you need more AUD's to buy a GBP, the conclusion is buy GBP/AUD because is in an UT. So the easy way to answer you question is when the lines representing the currencies are inside the 20 lines we are in a RANGE MODE, when outside the 20 lines we are in a TREND MODE and is right on the spot with no lagging and all at one glance. So the switch for RANGE to TREND mode and viceversa is right there at the 20 lines. Please read the 10.7 CSS thread. Sorry for been redundant but to understand this concept is of upmost importance. Hope it helps, Pipstubborn. |
