Would you care to take a look at what would have happened with a wider stop loss when you feel so inclined?

:D
Sure thing lets see if the VPS can handle 1 more- I'll try a 40 pip stop that will give risk to rewards of about 4:1 with the 20pip SL about 3:1 with the 30 pip SL and 2:1 with the 40pip SL. It will be interesting to see if the win ratios stay at about 33% or if they are proportional to the Risk to Reward ratios.
I meant look back over those trades and see what the results would have been. Never mind - looking forward to your forward testing and appreciate your intelligent involvement.
Andy- I agree with your comments on fixed stop loss placement. However what I am trying to do is experiment with different settings as Steve suggests and particularly the setting Bob suggested in his series of posts that inspired this the Simple Bob EA. They start near the bottom of this page:
http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... 090#p75090

Also aside from the css, rsi slope and sto filter modules in the ea I don't see anything thing the code that evaluates the areas near the xxx.000 to look back for tested support/resistance . Since fixed sl is all we got it what we use.
Yes. The near 3:1 reward:risk ratio is the whole point of this bot. It does not look back for other s/r points.
As I understand the idea behind this trading strategy it has assumes that a xxx.000 round number is a strong support resistance area allowing for tight stops and a high reward to risk ratio. This combination is the assumed edge it is exploiting.
Yes. I have not expressed myself clearly in post one and will address this in the morning.

Thank you for your contributions so far, FXTrucker. There is a small group of exceptional contributors here who are immensely valued. It looks as though you will be joining them.

Sorry guys I have been following since the inception of this bot and hope that I don't offend anyone.
MA Stac example.png
This is a screenshot I setup to show that the MA stack criteria were not met when the screen indicated a possible trade to you. I suggest anyone trying this ea turn all filters off until they have verified for themselves that it opens trades correctly and then try applying filters. Without the filter applied this pair should have taken a winning trade just before the first magenta bar. It might have taken a second losing trade between the bars after the winning trade closed even with the MA stack criteria applied. Also note that the winning trade probably could have had a tight stop loss and still been a winner.

Applying a filter is going to reduce the number of trades taken and often does not effect the actual win ratio much. In the case above it may have eliminated a winning trade and allowed a losing one making the results for the example week worse not better. This illustrates a possible consequence of applying a filter. Reducing the total number of trades taken can make the bot more prone to large draw downs.

The only truly effective filter would be a "Take only winning trades filter". Empty4 does not support negative bar shift for its iMA and other indicator bar info return functions. Therefore we cannot accurately calculate in advance which trades are winners. ;)

Hi Matt I have two trades opened today with all the filters turned off. I will now slowly start checking with the 21/55 Ma turned on. The rules with the 21/55 ma filter is that the 21 ema must move away from the 55ema and both must be above or below the 240 ma before you will have a trade at your trigger line. Trades like this will not be many but much higher probability of success. Thanks Fxtrucker for opening my eyes.

Yes one of my FXCM demos has taken 4 losers while one of my Forex.com demos has taken 1 losing trade. Neither have the MA Stack on. Their only difference in settings is stop loss so you would think they should have taken the same trades. All of my demos have CSS and STO7 on. I added a 40pip SL demo on 24 pair.

Interesting. I disabled CSS this morning and now I have 11 open trades, with a few of them at BE +10. The whole basket is c. 200 pips up as I write this.

So, the only filters I have are the 240 MA and Stoch moving in the right direction and >20 for buys and <80 for sells.

I will leave the trades running and see what happens.

That trade would have been taken with MA Stacking enabled, but would have avoided an entry yesterday.

Post subject:  MA Stacking filter opened a trade

The demo with the MA Stacking filter enabled opened a trade but it looks like it should not have. I think it occurred when I was on the VPS and had been turning the EA's on and off to check the settings. It may be a feature of Empty4. It is interesting to note that none my other demos opened this trade.
