Example of a wrong trendline breakout using Demark.

First thing we should learn in a kind of Demark for dummies introdution are the three conditions to be met for a valid breakout.

1. Last candle must close above/below a trendline.

2. The 7Stoch (or any fast nrp oscillator) must show that there is already some bullish or bearish strength in the market (20/80 crosses or even 10/90 could be good) but not as the result of an over extended move. If we need bullish strenght confirmation for a breakout to the upside we must look for an Stoch going from the bottom towards the top.

3. Last fractal shown in the chart must be in the opposite side of the breakout. An easy trick to learn it is to divide the fractals in 'Buy' or 'Sell' ones using two different colors.

If you are considering to take a breakout to the downside, for example, make sure that the last fractal shown in the chart is red. This validation by fractals is very important.

This is an example of a bad breakout situation. Of course, the breakout could work, but there are high odds for it to be a fakeout, just a little scratch on the trendline. The fact that the 7Stoch is already at the bottom and the last fractal is in green are not a coincidence. Price could be trying to reverse up and the last push down could be a bear trap.

AND what 10.7 will do if price moves up is the sto will move up crossing the 90.70 W2.1 will go to the top and then those TL will be broken. The one thing showing it may go down is CSS CAD is stronger than the USD but both have flattened. The first day of the week is tough because we dont have market direction yet. :)

Bob, that "indecision" at the start of the week seems like a weak point in an otherwise great design. The problem seems to stem from basing the direction on "new week PA" vs. "last week close." The new week usually tends to start out fairly close to last week's close, so it dithers while it waits for a direction. Would the start of the week be more stable if you changed "last week close" to something a bit earlier, or maybe an average of the Thurs/Fri close, or something like that? In most cases the market doesn't gap significantly, so maybe you could take last week's PA into account and get a clear signal earlier?

If the weekly movement would be determined by the first day, shouldn't be the movement set by the first London session of the week used as a guide to future movement? :?

I have a broker that uses a Sunday candle, so the indi is stable for me already. My broker is in NYC. I wonder if that matters? Geographical location, I mean.

If price does that. What we know is the vast majority of weekly candles are full bodied there fore once the weekly direction is set you have a good chance of following it for the week. Having said that last weeks weekly candle on the usd/jpy is about as small as a candle can be and still register. It was as thinner than a pancake all week and had one burst move at the USA Friday session. That was usd/jpy in a nutshell last week. The daily candle had a nice body to it but that was caused by one news event and a run during the USA session.
