Post subject:  Loading revised EA's

I'd be grateful if someone would take the time to help me (or point me in the right direction) with a step by step guide to adding an updated version of an EA to a chart. I've looked around the forum but I'm unsure in what order things such as deleting the old EA, and adding the New EA, are done. And, what effect if any, the process has on open trades etc.

Here is the way I update an EA.

1. Turn off Auto Trading at the top of the screen.
2. Hit F7 and bring up the EA properties. Save your current Input settings. This creates a Presets file.
3. Click File>Open Data Folder>MLQ4>Experts
4. Delete the EX4 and MQ4 versions and the mqlcache.dat
5. Retrieve your newly downloaded version of the EA and paste into File>Open Data Folder>MLQ4>Experts
6. Shut down entire version of Empty4 and restart.
7. Reload the new version on your charts. It may automatically reload if you have saved your setup as a template. Do a F7 again to bring up the input properties and load your saved settings.
8. I now re-save the chart as a Template.
9. Use a script to load the same template onto all the charts.
10. Turn AutoTrading back on.

I think that's all. Just the way I do it.

Whats mqlcache.dat I can't say I've seen that mentioned anywhere (at anytime) in my meanderings :?:

Tell you the truth, I'm not sure. Somewhere a long time ago someone said to delete it. Empty4 always creates a new one and I just figured it must contain some old data. Just guessing though and my method seems to work, so that's what I use.

Hello,

First of all id like to thank everyone who contributed in creating this wonderful trading system!
I am able to do profitable trading manually using HGI but I can't seem to get good results with this EA.
I am just doing a couple of runs using strategy tester and I always end up in negative, if not with a huge DD results. I'm assuming my EA setup is not that good (ive tried alot of combinations by now) so now I am posting here to ask anyone who who have good EA setup recommendation?

Perhaps someone can post an SS of their settings?

If I want to update my EA I close down Empty4, replace the EA.mq4 and delete the EA.ex4.
After restart, on all charts the new updated EA runs with old settings though.

I may be completely misguided here, but doesn't the ex4 contain your settings? It is only generated after an mql4 code (of any kind) is run for the first time on a certain terminal.
Pretty sure that isn`t the case... try this to prove your theory... save a setfile from your current EA settings... shut down, delete the mq4 & ex4 file, copy new EA to folder restart and check your EA settings... still the same...Magic? Dunno but this is the case, maybe someone else can enlighten us...

Ok, heres what I do to load a new Bot.. It cant get much easier really... :youknow:

1. DownLoad New Bot... Right Click-COPY
2 Open `File/Open Data Folder/MQL4.
3. hover over `Experts` folder--Right Click PASTE.
4. COPY & REPLACE.
5. Shut down/Restart Empty4.

Simples,,, v1j loaded with previous set file. :!!:

Cool, and the bot picks up where it left off i.e. monitors the current open trades?

After step 4 alternatively you can...
left click Expert Advisors in the Navigator to highlight...
then right click and hit refresh....the program is then compiled.
(In the event you don't want to restart the platform)
You can also do this with indicators and scripts.
