Hello Rene,

I have very little experience with EAs, but I am experienced trading manually and I trade D1, using MN, W1, D1 and H4 to enter and exit trades.

I am generally pleased with my results, but as you know when entering long term trades sometimes a trader need to suffer draw downs lasting days before the trade becomes profitable. This is not pleasant.

I am aware how this wonderful EA can even be used by manual traders to improve their results. However, my questions are:

1) Is there any way that the Basket Mirror EA can help manual traders without using a basket? e.g. By not entering trades in the real account while the pair is having a draw down, and then initiate the trade in the real account as soon as the pair moves into positive territory, and from then on leave the trade alone to be managed manually?

2) Is there any other way that your EA can help manual traders by either not using a basket, or using smaller baskets of say one basket for each of the 8 main currencies without running 16 instances of Empty4?

3) Is it possible to apply the Standard Deviation algorithm to single pairs using just one mirror and one control account? i.e. in the EA each pair become a single basket.

Any thought or suggestion will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance. for your reply.

Farhad

Farhad, I think that these 3 questions are related. This is the way I understand what you're after:

Currently, the Control Account (or Account A, if you wish), is opening and closing trades for many different pairs and when the resulting equity curve of this Account A is pointing up, BasketMirrorEA mirrors all these trades to Account B.

Your proposal is to follow/analyse the profit curve of individual pairs (possibly segregated by MagicNumber) and only mirror those individual pairs, once their profit curve is trending up.

With the current implementation of BasketMirrorEA, this is not possible. If there is a demand to go this route, a few changes need to be made both to EquityBalancePlot and BasketMirrorEA. They both need to be given a set of MagicNumbers that are to be monitored and EquityBalancePlot would create a logFile and basketFile for each of the given Magic Numbers. BasketMirrorEA would pick up these files, do its thing, and mirror as appropriate.

Let me know if this is what you're after.

Rene, many thanks for your fast and very thoughtful reply.

Yes exactly. This is what I think would improve the results of a manual trader. Perhaps it would make it even more profitable if individual trades on each pair were being analysed (rather than multiple trades which have been placed on a single pair at different times - but I don't know how complex the code will become, or it will have any advantage in terms of profitability at all). Also it would be much easier for the user if each trade or pair was given its own magic number automatically.

However, you are a more experienced trader than I am, and I think you can much improve on the above ideas.

You have to realise the following:
There is not much difference between the price feed of an individual pair and the profit curve of a basket that is only comprised of that one pair. In other words, if we are monitoring the slope of the profit curve of that one individual trade, we might as well just look at the slope of the price feed.

The original idea of BasketMirrorEA was to look at the performance of the control EA as a whole in real time (by looking at its equity curve) and mirror this performance (by mirroring the trades) to a second account at the times that the control EA was doing well. The underlying assumption was that there were times when the market conditions were not favourable for the control EA and other times when these conditions were (favourable). I guess it depends on the manual strategy your are deploying. whether you can make that same assumption. Eg. a fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants manual strategy does not have enough structure to make such assumption.

As for the magic numbers: normally if you place trades by selecting the "New Order" button (or right-clicking on the chart), your trades will have a magic number of 0. If you want to place trades manually and give them a special non-zero magic number, you will have to use a script that you give some input parameters (symbol name, order type, lotsize and magic number, to name a few) that will place the trade programmatically (but with your manually chosen parameters).

These were just some random thoughts about what your are trying to accomplish.

Considering the detailed explanation you have given above, now I can not see a way to improve on an already profitable manual strategy using the BasketMirror EA.

Thank you again for the clarification.
