Post subject:  Gridtrading from daily open
......... the question I am asking myself this week is what logic do we want to best carry out this strategy - the adaption of GW we are trying here, HGBnG or Rinse Repeat?

For pair selection trading from the daily open we can have choice of :
a) . Most volatile pairs a la Gertje
b).. Strongest/Weakest pairs a la Rene with MADDY
c)... HGBnG a la Steve Hopwoood (following a Trend or RAD arrow on daily perhaps)
d)....Pairs with major news that day
e)..... Any combination of the above

Hi!
I have been following different threads here at SH and found this thread today.
It sure looks interesting.
When it comes to your list above I think any option can be useful, it more comes down to trading styles and what one is comfortable with and experienced to handle.
Because I do think that this kind of EA will need some governance if things start to go out of control.

IMO Maddy is the best way to choose pairs. For grid trading, trending pairs are very important, no matter in which direction.

A) Works like intendeer, time will tell how much DD will occure
B) I'm not familiair with Maddy, but seems a very good candidate
C) That could be an option, one needs to check more pairs to get a decent average profit
D) Difficult, often there's a huge spike in the opposite direction when big news is on the agenda
E) Probably the best, but what combination.....? :smile:

When incorporating more pairs, there will be pairs with lesser ADR, so one needs to accommodate for this with grid-distance and maybe TP / JS settings.

I ask this question with a little trepidation - no-one else has reported this issue which is worrying but I am getting the following error message when I load the EA:

2016.04.04 cannot open file ....MQL4\indicators\3 Level.ex4' [2]

I have looked at the code and searched for an indicator 3_Level.ex4 but cannot find the indicator.

Does this error matter?

Nope.

The 3level indi can be found in post 1 from the HGBnG thread but isn't used here.

Perhaps 100pips is too easy for these pairs.. :good: .. would it be pushing luck to go for D1 ATR ?

I think so. I rather have a fast and save 100pips than be caught in huge DD for days.
Like below picture, closed for 100, but would be negative when aiming for more.

Yesterday's GBPJPY is still open, floating @-400. I started a new basket on the pair with a different magic#, to run beside the open one. The new one closed for 100pips already. That's 5 baskets in 2 days, adding 500pips with no hassle. If this prooves to be consistent, I can do whatever I like.

I also dealt with this kind of trading-idea. Some weeks ago I found this helpful indicator - http://adamjowett.com/2012/04/market-se ... indicator/. There you can find an short explantion about the indicator.

It is an easy way to see the following chart-features with one look at the chart:
  • show opening time of the typical market sessions: Sydney, Asia, Europe, USA (configureable to the timezone where you are living)
  • show opening price
  • show highest high and lowest low of the last market session
