If I understand this correctly(there is a slim chance actually) the RAD arrows never repaint. In that case they can be used to create a second type of TREND or RANGE indication in the transition between green/red and red/green RAD's.

Have you considered this before and why did you not implement it in that case?

You will learn not to use the word repaint around here because HGI does update its signals if market conditions change. Just thought I would let you know that word is not part of my vocabulary.

Yes but I guess the question is still valid even if I the change the word "repaint" to "update". The RAD's are based on CSS so it can't be just what we see on the chart. The ups and downs.

That's awesome - you're awesome - thanks for the answers.

Starting to get to grips with this. It is very cool. :D

So with each of the shapes (buffers on the HGI, named values in the data window) - the values at which the arrow / wavy lines are drawn - is there significance to the value? I mean with a RAD arrow is this the point at which the trend will confidently go to, or just some arbitrary value so that it looks nice on the chart, since they do seem to vary.

With the range buy and sell - do these values have significance? For a stop as with the wavy lines?

The purpose of rad arrows is to let you know whether or not the move will continue up or down past the previous high or low. If it doesn't have the strength to go higher or lower it shows it will start to range. In the past you would have to know the fundamental driving price action to decide whether or not price would continue. Now it is measured for you and the chances are high that it will do what it is projecting.

Also the positioning of the wavy lines - is there significance to the wavy lines being above or below the candle at all? This could definitely make sense for the ranged wave - especially if it is an estimate of the range in the location? (upper or lower bound of range, wherever the wavy lines are seen).

i don't understand why your asking this question?? Obviously if the wavy line is on the bottom it's not talking about a high.
And another question - with for example, something at a lower timeframe, does that lower timeframe do the math to work out the MA values for weekly and monthly, of just the two timeframes above it?

Each TF will have its own math based on top down trading theory. The higher the TF the more accurate you can determine the trend. For example a big arrow on a one hour chart could be a small arrow on a four hour chart. On a higher TF it's a dip/rally in major trend but on a lower TF it's trend arrow. In other words on a daily chart a 150 pip retracement is a bump in the road to a trend that lasts for months but on an hourly chart a nice two day strong move in the opposite direction. So it's a trend on the hourly but a rally in a prevailing DT on the daily.

So if the trading TF is M30, then use weekly and monthly, or H1, and H4? The latter seems most plausible. I tried this with the latter, and it appeared that the signals given were less accurate. I know that that is generally the case, just wondered what you expectation would be with this at lower TFs, and if there's something I should be doing to try it, or do you just stay away from this?

See answer above.
Cheers,

Martin.

Yes the rads or range arrows are based on the strength of CSS. In the past you would have to judge strength based on reading CSS charts and then determine which direction to look for a trade and how long you would want to trade it. The difference with HGI is if there is a sudden change in strength or direction in price action ie. news story it picks it up and let's you know. Some people think this is repainting or just an argument in semantics but it's not. It is letting you know the market has changed and it picked it up and adjusted long before you would read it from a chart. In other words you would not notice with your eyes the change in the lines of CSS but the indi sees the change mathematically and let's you know. So repaint is a bad term in trading circles when used on this indi. That's not what it is doing. It's letting you know market conditions have changed and you need to decide whether or not to change your trade. Unfortunately most badly misuse the term and throw in the trash a valuable tool of trading information. The creator of TMA indi doesn't understand the value of his own indi and the information you can glean from it. He disliked what Al did with it in his extreme TMA thread and what we (Baluda) did with it in creating CSS. Repaint is a bad word with some Indis and causes traders to ignore valuable information that the indi is giving you. Once you comprehend this you will be more careful how you use that term.

Thanks for this. I have long looked for a way to describe this to others but it's a concept that escapes casual thought.

The upshot of this you can trade one direction long TF and opposite direction on shorter TF without it being a hedge just recognition that rallies in one TF can be trends in another!

Thank you for the answer I think it's easier when I know the mechanics of the indicator. Is there any use of using ATR based TMA channel indicator like TMA_CG_MOD to see where to anticipate the TREND,WAVY and RANGE signals instead of blindly waiting for them. In comparision, forgive me if it sounds harsh, it's like a blind man walking with a stick waiting for these HGI signals. Maybe you can't use these channels I don't know but if, what settings should be used?

We don't want to give away all our secrets but there is a multiple use of Indis outside of CSS. It's not like you are waiting blindly but your waiting for it to tell you something just like any other indi. I am amazed that people want to know the inner workings of this indi but never ask that of MACD or STOCHASTIC. For example I don't need to know all the ingredients of a Bollinger Band to trade it. When it breaks upper or lower bands I can confirm the trade using whatever indi I like or just take the trade. I don't fully understand it but I used it often. For me it's not so much the indi understanding as is what session is trading and the time of day. Markets move at the opens so find something that is moving and jump on board. That info is gold HGI will do that for you. How who cares.

Hi Bob,

I really appreciate your willingness to share your trading experience and tips with us. It is very helpful.

A few months back I found an HGI guide from you (at least I am pretty sure it was from you). It was a large PDF with many charts that explained the meaning of the HGI signals such as wavy lines, RAD buy/sell, BUY/SELL and other things. It provided a lot of valuable information on how to use these signals. I can no longer find that document.

Can you tell me where I can find it?

Thanks,
Jim
