Hi gang. I have been out of the loop for too long. Bought a house and decided to re-hab it. Project is largely over and I FINALLY got an internet hook-up to the house. Just starting to delve into Bob's 10.2 and Shelly. Something odd happened as I tried to get Shelly up and running and maybe someone can help. Loaded Shelly into a fresh Empty4 v 427, with FXDD as my broker. When I try and revisit the Expert, it doesn't let me in. Done by right-clicking the chart>Expert Adivsors>Properties. When I click Properties the pull down window disappears. I've tried exiting the demo and coming back, but that only works sometime? Frustrating. What gives? Is this something gnu? BTW - what a great bunch here in Hopwood Land. Sam |

Yeah, it does that. I believe it's because it's a multi-pair EA, so start() never returns. Phillipe posted a change that lets you pause the EA with the Enable button: http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... 353#p14353 If you need to change parameters, you can just drag another copy of the EA onto the chart and specify the new params there. The new EA will replace the old one. Supposedly that's a better way to do it anyway, as long as losing the old EA's state is acceptable. PS Welcome back! |

Thanks for that Gary. Understood. One more Dummiy question. Last night I loaded Shelly for the first time, .set file attached. No trades taken and the dashboard at the right of the screen shows only horizontal arrorws, so it looks like something isn't activated. Any clues for this clueless old guy? Sam |

Sam, Your set file has nothing wrong with it per se BUT the settings you have are pretty extreme. Your Adaptive TP is set to 200 pips (2000 points) this is per pair traded - so I expect it is (as with your other settings) inflated 10x? It is set to trigger at 6:45 am. As you have Shelley + Gary set on it should really ignore this time I think but I am not certain as I am only using Original Shelley as Shelley + Gary doesn't make much sense to me in the current format (I don't think it makes sense to basket trade it). As for your arrows - I think you still need the "10.2 TMA slope v.1.4B 4.30 for EA" indi in your indicators folders (+ Empty4 restart) to get that working - although that is no longer needed for the actual EAs any more. My best guess for the EA not running would be that you don't have enough historical data - so I would load the force historical data script on to a chart and let it run: http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... 5733#p5733 You could also try setting the EA to Shelley (original) and set the start time to a few minutes earlier and it should trigger straight away (obviously you might want to reduce to min lot size to test this Cheers, Dave. |

Yes, don't waste any time with S+G at this point. It doesn't work. There were a couple of bugs in the original code. I thought I'd fixed them but it's still not trading. Stick with classic Shelley for now. |

Apparently I am dense. (And the crowd responds "Well, DUH!" Other people have read the NB10.2 booklets, understood them perfectly, and jumped right in to start trading the system very successfully. I read the booklets and just got confused. I ignored the stuff that didn't apply (like the way things used to work in 10.0, and the charts that don't match current templates) but I still didn't see a clear trading plan. I understand the idea of SRFs and CTs and pivot crosses &etc. I'm still trying to figure out how and when to apply them. Verb's Codex was invaluable to me. Those clear, concise rules worked much better for my learning style. I condensed Verb's rules into a quick-reference table that I posted in the 10.2 EA thread. That was the wrong place for them so I'm reposting them here. (There are two versions: sorted in Codex order, and split into Long & Short signals.) Mop says I (and thus apparently also Verb) am complicating it too much. He reposted a diagram from FF that made it very simple: if Slope > 0.4 and the OWH is green and (PA above blue MA line or cross Main Pivot), then buy. Period. So where are all the SRFs and CTs in that? How does that fit with Verb's rules? How do you combine the SRF/CT/etc ideas with the TMA/OWH/etc indicators? How do I put this all together?? In an attempt to understand this, I read through Bob's booklets and condensed them into a few pages. I wanted a clear process to follow: in these conditions, look for this, then do that. I still don't have that, so any feedback would be most welcome. Once I get this figured out, hopefully this will be a helpful "study guide" for other folks learning NB10.2. Thanks! Gary |

Gary, if you don't mind I humbly like to state I never said that you make it too complicated! I would never dare..... I even said "but from what I recall, NB only enters either on break of or bounce at daily / weekly pivot lines combined with MA cross confirmation (there are different MA 5 shifts associated with his currency groups 1 - 5). I will however re-read the manual for the fifth time and the last 100 or so posts of NB.....". I did that but am still unclear. I think that till now only a few aspects of the system are incorporated in the 2 EAs.... I did re-read the whole lot but still not clear... So, I am with you, I can not even get the EA's to work and any attempt to manually trade this, caused losses for me - apparently fxozgirl has the manual part done pat - maybe she can enlighten you / us..... I have also noticed that some people here have successfully proposed to incorporate certain aspects that look like to have been taken from Al's Extreme TMA thread over at FF - but I might be wrong on that.... Cheers & onward to a better understanding of NB 10.2 Mop PS: I have pm'd fxozgirl and asked whether she would share her insights with us |

Dumb question (but we are here in the dummies thread)... I've read the booklets yesterday because 10.2 is so popular here on the forum. But I don't trade forex but Index Futures(CFD's, FDAX, ES, YM). So I'm wondering if anyone tried Bob's method with index futures? It should work here too, shouldn't it? |

Hi Mop, thanks for the vote of confidence, but I have only been trading off the D1 trending trades manually (and so far that's been great)...I still really haven't got a handle on the range trading myself yet. My limited understanding (correct me if I'm wrong) is that SRF's/CT trades are taken when the slope is less than 0.4/-0.4 thereby indicating that price is ranging. Once the slope indicator shows ranging on the D1 & 4H charts you drop to the 1H to look for SRF's. I would suggest you contact Jemook & Verb who both do have an excellent handle on all aspects of the manual trading of 10.2 and from what I have seen Kelisa is also very good as well. Good luck guys, I also want to learn this manual aspect as well...although my NB 10.2 EA is trading very nicely whether it's trend trades or range trades, so take a look there as well. Cheers Shelley |
