OK, I have spent the past couple of weeks testing some new settings and although it's early days yet...it's looking good for now.

I am using the updated Gday EA that is in post 1 with the following settings:

Stoch: 7, 2, 2
Overbought/Oversold levels: 80, 20
Lot Size: Based in multiples of 3
Breakeven: 50 +2

I have set up a myfxbook link so you can take a look at the trades taken.

I set up the EA on 3rd September, it took it's first trade on 6th Sept and has taken 5 trades in total. 4 of the 5 trades are all at Breakeven or better, with the 5th trade currently +36 pips.

Total pips banked so far is 322 pips, with open positions at +237 pips.

The only thing I can't figure out is that the EA is setting TP & SL, even though I haven't set them yet.
(see screenshot attached).

Anyway, I'm away for the weekend now, so I probably won't get a chance to get back on here until Sunday night, so will answer questions then :D

Watch your VolatilityLookBackCandles input. If this is >0 then the ea will set tp/sl based on this.

Shelley, I just realised that you first contacted me about this 9 months ago. You are still testing the ea.

Not many of my ea's last 9 days.

This suggests to me that some further development might be helpful.

Let's start with what we can prune. In the code, I see Hanover, CBI and a shed-load of trend-spotting stuff. How much of this can I remove?

:D

Yep, that was it...I had left it at the default 20. I shall reset to 0.

Cheers

At the end of trading this week, total pips banked was +708 with only 1 trade left open, which is currently +164 pips.
Let's see what this week does :D

Also I had VolatilityLookBackCandles set to 20 which effected the TP/SL, I have reset that to 0 ready for this weeks trading.

Yes...I still think this strategy has legs, up to now the biggest problem was we were getting the signal's a bit late, especially when the market was ranging. So, I have focused attention on trying to get in to the trade earlier, thereby providing a better opportunity (even in a ranging market) to at least get to +50, move to BE and lock in some profits.

It's very early days, but changing the stochastic to 7,2,2 has gotten us in much earlier than using the original 8,3,3 settings.

I've attached the charts of the trades taken using 7,2,2 and also added an 8,3,3 stoch for comparison purposes. In most cases, we would not have yet even taken a trade using the 8,3,3 settings and yet, we have now been in & out and locked in over 700 pips of profit by using the 7,2,2!

Also, I agree about pruning some of the code, especially the trend direction stuff.

I have been testing various RSI trend detection settings in the last 2 weeks and haven't been able to come up with anything I have felt would benefit, so happy for this to go and (for me) moving forward, the only module I think I would be wanting to test would be slope (I still haven't had a chance to do this yet), however I understand that as soon as the rest is removed, someone will come along and suggest adding some type of trend detection...so I shall leave this to you to decide what/if it stays or goes.

See below charts and results for trades taken
(please note, had forgotten to set the TP/SL in the EA and I had mistakenly left the UseVolatilityLookbackCandles at 20 which then set TP/SL according to these settings on all pairs - which has caused them to close prematurely, so potentially missed a lot of extra pips there, except I did manage to change the NZDUSD trade which is why it is still going.)

fxozgirl - maybe worthwhile to test different Stoch limits such as 90/10 or 85/15 - just a thought....

Cheers

Hey Mob...I have had a look at this already...imo I don't think making the OB/OS levels higher/lower will help, I have watched price stay inside the 80/20 level for weeks on a D1 chart before breaking out of these zones. If anything the zones would need to be wider eg 75/25 to prevent false signals, but that's what I started to do with the original settings and was then getting too late into the trade.

With that being said, I'm happy for you to test some other stoch levels and let us know your results.

Cheers
