When Steve coded the first version of BASA it was the end of July, traditionally a difficult period for trading due to the decreased trading volumes. There were quite a few losses in those early days, but a lot of those occurred whilst we were still developing the code accurately and tweaking some of the parameters. Towards the end of August we were coming close to a more stable version of BASA. These days it seems as though every other week there is some sort of upheaval in the market, making it harder and harder to be a consistently profitable trader...even more so than manual trading, it is very difficult (read: almost impossible) to get an EA to be profitable in such variable trading conditions...BASA comes close (IMO and experience, when used with conservative settings)! Don't get me wrong...BASA is first and foremost a trend following EA! It is designed to get in and stay in and ride the trend, however there has not been too many sustained trends over the last couple of months for BASA to latch onto, but the few there has been, BASA has excelled itself. The challenge though, was not to give back our profits gained during a trending period when the markets started to range or were flat. And that's exactly what there has been a lot of recently...flat and/or ranging markets and IMO (although I admit quite biased Sure, there has been some losers (I had 4 this week), but the way BASA stays out of the market when it needs to or chips away at the small gains when it can and then capitalises when a pair takes off (ala eurcad this week which hit its 300 pip TP) is pretty amazing to watch! More than anything, I am hopeful, thanks to the selfless contributions of Steve, Andy, Dave and a number of other members (and not to mention Bob who probably doesn't even know what's going on here |

Hi Art...I answered this same question from you a couple of pages ago, the market was consolidating on Friday after a very good week for BASA. The default settings will be keeping you from taking a trade at the high/low of the market...this is a good thing. Please take the time to read the user guide so you get to understand how BASA works...the default settings do not trade very often but they are very accurate |

V 2k is in post 1, with the fix for the risk-based stack lot size that Dave spotted. To preserve your hard coded inputs, go to void LookForTradingOpportunities() and find the two code snippets that start with the comment: //Lot size calculated by risk Replace the first snippet (within the if (SendLong) with Code: Select all Code: Select all |

Andy has sent me a pm. The stacking ma stuff isn't quite right - one of my usual copy/paste bloops. I will post the fix in time for market opening. |

One more update before the markets open later on; V 2l in post 1. Andy was looking through the code and spotted a couple of errors in my calls to the ma stack detection function. Making the changes yourselves: scite line 1414. Replace if (useMaStackForMainTrade && (!detectMaStack(Symbol(), PERIOD_H4, FastStackMaPeriod, SlowStackMaPeriod, 0, MODE_LWMA, PRICE_OPEN, OP_BUY, 0))) return; with if (useMaStackForMainTrade && (!detectMaStack(Symbol(), PERIOD_H4, FastStackMaPeriod, SlowStackMaPeriod, 0, MODE_LWMA, PRICE_CLOSE, OP_BUY, 0))) return; then repeat the process at line 1529. Then go to the bottom of bool detectMaStack(string symbol, int timeframe, int period, int period1, int mashift, int method, int applied, int type, int shift) - function starts at line 1797. Create a blank line above the function's closing bracket and insert //Got this far, so ma's do not stack up return(false); the recompile. |
