At the risk of getting flamed, I would like to add a couple of items to my Christmas list. Here goes:

Dear Santa (Steve),

Would it be at all possible to maybe get a Hurst filter added to HGB. A number of good little boys and girls have been playing with these recently (including myself) and found them to be particularly useful. These would be great for both auto-trading and even manual utilization of HGB (though in that case not really necessary).

Also Santa (Steve), could we have the wave trades modified to only enter on "trend" waves and not "range" waves. I'm certain one of the grownups said that HGB takes trades at any wave and I have noticed that sometimes we get "range" waves only to have the previous move continue.

I have been a very good boy this year Santa (Steve) as you would know. I hope you consider these presents but I know you are busy looking after all the other little boys and girls. And please, please don't leave me a lump of coal if this is too much to ask for.

A quick copy of a post I just made in the dummies' thread.

Just a quick bit of generalised abuse here, aimed an nobody specifically.

Only a cretin with a financial death wish trades HGB OOTB. The OOTB settings tend to reflect the latest thingy I have coded and often bear no resemblance to any kind of realistic live trading whatsoever.

Something to bear in mind folks.

I always thought the OOTB settings were set to trade the Original strategy and any additions are to be then turned on by the requester for them to test on their own so that users wanting to stick with the Original strategy can still test it as intended. Woops, no wonder why my demo testing was going well with v1c then went to crap when I switched to v2.

I never have understood why someone would want to do this. Never trade OOTB. Only an idiot does that. Always check settings as they may not meet your risk/reward profile (assuming you have one. I find that most traders do not have a clue how to create a risk/reward profile). The program may not meet your risk reward profile unless you check the settings. Your computer speed will be different. Your Internet speed will be different, Your broker data will be different, Spreads will be different; Slippage will be different, trading abilities and broker practices will be different (example my EU spread is .25 and I can trade between spreads if I desire. I can place stops next to bid/ask, 1 pip away or less. This will give different results than others). Never trade OOTB. Don't be so lazy as to load an EA without checking each and every setting. Not doing so is a great formula to lose all.One would think common sense would prevail and say..." hey.. check the settings... " ... but I guess not.

But lets be realistic. We have a whole range of people here. Newbies to Oldbies. Intelligent to not so intelligent to really really bright and sophisticated. That is the very nature of a public forum.

I am reasonably intelligent but I am very cognizant that I am smarter than some and far from intelligent compared to many others. For those who have the smarts, I really feel that they should endeavor to publish an EA that, at least, has an OOTB set file that is at least basically realistic. Lets be reasonable here. Who should know their EA better than the developer. Produce the basic EA with, at least, the best fundamental code format true to the original concept and let the people expand from there.

People who are too lazy and stupid to read the user guide and make sure they know what they are doing, deserve everything they get as a result.

You can disagree with that last statement as much as you want; I don't care. I do normally remember to reset the ootb inputs to a reasonable approximation of a realistic trading set. Sometimes I forget.

It is up to EA user to make sure they know what they are doing. Only an idiot fails to do so.

And before anyone bleats, "English is not always a members' first language" I am not a total cretin. A tad thick, we all know that, but not a total dimwit. I know there are many members for whom English is their second languge. I sympathise with them.

Fact is though, that this is an English language forum. There are perfectly good and cogent reason why I, for example, do not contribute to forums in French, Italian, German, Mandarin, Japanese, Serbo-Croat......

I would love to write an EA that can be set to run and make a killing without the user having to make any effort at all. It would be great to be able to set up the parents of my pupils with the EA, and my friends and former pupils and provide an easy source of financial freedom for all.

As the saying goes, it ain't gonna happen.
