Sorry Steve,

I had a feeling I was going to get flamed for trying to clumsily answer Simon's problem. As someone just getting my feet wet in mql I was doing it as much as a problem solving exercise to see if I could figure out how to do it.

Will stick to just reading coding posts from now on until I have some more experience

When getting my Crapql4 feet wet, I learned vast amounts by hacking code from people who had learned vast amounts.....................

Understanding somehow transfers itself through repetition. Repeat the exercise you have just hacked often enough and you come to understand it. This is an exponential process. The more you understand here, the more falls into place there, and there and there.........

Here's a tip
Put the cursor on the function, press F1.

Then up pops this

double iCustom(
string symbol, // symbol
int timeframe, // timeframe
string name, // path/name of the custom indicator compiled program
... // custom indicator input parameters (if necessary)
int mode, // line index
int shift // shift
);

look at the field you want to play with, it tells you what it needs to be initialized as. shift is int (not string that uses quotes. Simple eh?

Have you tried putting the shift string in quotes. So

iCustom(Symbol(),0,"HGI_v16.07",0,"shift"); <-----

Hmm. Nope, that seemed to work for a moment than stopped

I got it to work making the shift into a double rather than an "int" but not sure why.

Hi everyone,

I've been trying to follow Bob's and Steve's works for some time. I am new to forex platform and amazed by their work. Thank you so much for all your efforts!

I tried to understand all the instructions by myself in order not to bother you guys, but unfortunately I cannot overpass the last one with HGB ea. When I drag HGB to the chart, I change the HGI_Name section with "HGI_v17.00". But it still does not accept it and call me demented lazy
I have the HGI_v17.00 in my platform and on my chart but it still says "the required indicator HGI_v17.00 does not axist".

I searched the forum for this problem. It seems when they change the indi name it resolves, but not in my case.
I'd appreciate If anybody could help me.

I finally solve it. Indi was in a folder under Indicators. Taht's why EA did not see it (as far as I understand).

Ok. My dumb question got deleted from the HGB thread. So here I try again. Sorry for being a noob!!

What's the purpose a refreshing the chart to detect false signals? Doesn't the indicator prevent redrawing of only older signals. tomasso said in update 15.6 that the indi will initialize the last bar and calculate.

So why are we refreshing the charts??

I am returning to this.

I must have been in an exceptionally mellow mood earlier, because normally this would have attracted the blast that is now coming your way.

Code such as the snippet you questioned has been up and running flawlessly for years. It has usually been donated by one of the Proper Coders here - people who have forgotten more about coding than I will ever learn. This particular snippet was provided by Goerge. He visits here rarely these days and contributes never; I miss him greatly; his early work in this forum did much to shape its success.

Talking about the Proper Coders, I am bloody good, so imagine how fantastic those people are. Unbelievably good. Awesome.

Only an idiot with a forum death wish questions code provided by these people.

Especially when the questioner demonstrates a woeful lack of understanding the most basic of CrapQl4 variable declarations.

I see that one of the mods has removed you to the On Moderation group and so you can do nothing other than read posts and download attachments. No idea whom it was, nor do I care; clearly you have irritated one of the valued members here.

Your best way of moving forward in this forum is to attempt to add intelligent posts that the moderator notes and passes and eventually, perhaps, grants you full posting rights. If you have nothing intelligent to offer, then stay quiet.
