I would like to weigh in on the swap issue. Swap only makes a difference if you use high leverage trading. For example if you trade 50:1 swap you are borrowing from your broker 50 dollars for every dollar you use. You pay interest on the money borrowed. If you are high leverage like 400:1 you are borrowing 400 dollars to every dollar you use. Obviously the amount of interest you pay or receive is determined by your leverage. I am a proponent of small leverage and small lot usage thereby making the swap insignificant to my trading decisions. For example the last two weeks I have run 161 trades and my total swap costs is less than 8 bucks. If I reduced my leverage to 25:1, something I am thinking of doing, my swap costs then would be half that. However, if I traded at 400:1 I could multiply my swap costs by 8 and they would be over 50 dollars. Now that kind of funding would get my attention and I would have to consider swap costs in my trading. So lower your leverage and eliminate swap costs from your trading decisions. Most big time traders would not consider going over 10:1. I have also seen that lowering leverage also helps in preventing over trading because you hit a limit at some point and need to close some trades to open new ones. One reason I am thinking of lowering leverage so I will be more judicious in my number of positions. |

Well gold just dropped to 1200 an oz. Who would have thought? I have never been much of a gold proponent, consider it an outdated form of currency usage, but at times it is a good investment. I remember Jubak saying gold would never go under 1000 ever again. Hmmmmmmmm he may have to eat those words. USA ends QE and gold goes back under a 1000, I think. Gold proponents will have to go hide until the next recession and we get to hear all their stuff again. Go paper money. YEAH. |

Well Steve must be doing something right FF is down again. Servers crashed. Catching a plane in an hour and heading for Orlando. Will be in Orlando for 4 weeks if anyone wants to get together for lunch let me know and we can plan something. We are thinking of spending a couple of days in St. Augustine, Gainesville, and Melbourne to see family and friends. So anyone in those areas be happy to visit. Las Vegas for a couple of hours at the airport today and then on we go. I have the laptop set up for trading. It would handle the CSS for some reason. It seems these multi-core computers have more trouble with CSS than the old single core I have at school. So I developed a simple 10.4 system that doesnt use CSS and will play around with it for a couple of days and see how it does. Anyway Orlando here we come, ready or not. |

Enjoy your vacation bob. Interestingly for swap I.m using fxprimus and I've confirmed that no matter the leverage swap is the same for them |

that is not the issue it is how much you are borrowing. You borrow more with higher leverage so you end up paying more interest. The higher the leverage the more broker money you are using on the trade. The more broker money you use. The more broker money you use the more interest you pay. |

That's exactly my point, for some strange reason it doesn't apply to fxprimus. I play 1:100 swap for uj is -0.15 I play 1:500 swap is still -0.15 Or are you saying that if I play 1 lot vs 2 lots, the swap for 2 lots is more? Sorry I.m kinda lost.. |

Hi Bob, you've been travelling so might not be aware that, over on Jemook's thread, some mods were done to the CSS-based indis by garyfritz, spotdespot and mpetersrx7. Instead of refreshing every tick, it can be set by the user so that it only updates periodically - 10 secs, 1min, 5 mins, whatever. I've found it helps enormously. Steve |
