Trying out this editor, I like... I like it a lot! and thanks for making us aware and sharing.

The latest update says the GO command will compile and force Empty4 to reload.


Version 1.3.2
Mainly a bug fix version. Empty4 notifier should be working now, and "Go" command will compile the program as well as force Empty4 to reload EA. "Compile" and "Build" will only compile without notifying Empty4.

Doesn't work for me on Win7. I have to drag the EA onto the chart again to make it reload.

I've confirmed by file time stamp that the compiler puts the file in the correct location.

What to do.....

SciTE should now open every time you double click a mq4 file.. ;)

Super useful, as my terminal editor stopped being able to do that a while back and I could never get it to go again

I'm finally trying this out... and I must be a bit thicker than the rest of you, as I can't see how to install it. The readme.txt file is Chinese and I don't see install instructions anywhere.

Do I have to copy everything from the zip file into my Empty4 directory? Or just the exe and dll and properties files? Or...?

you can unzip everything in any directory you want... if you want to use it as metaeditor replacement like steve described it follow me... ;)
  • unzip it direct to the root of Empty4 where also the metaeditor.exe should be.
  • rename metaeditor.exe to something like metaeditor.exe.old
  • make a copy of scitec.exe
  • rename the copy to metaeditor.exe
  • finito
if you press the metaeditor button in MTcrap it should now start scitec.

have fun... ;)

P.S.: this works for me in Win7 64bit without problems...but my MTcrap directory is in the root of C:\ and not in "Program Files(x86)" for the update of MTcrap after a compile i also needed to download the C++ Redistributable from Microsoft...link is here.

This works for me in Win7 64bit without problems...but my MTcrap directory is in the root of C:\ and not in "Program Files(x86)" for the update of MTcrap after a compile I also needed to download the C++ Redistributable from Microsoft...link is here.

Wow that is seriously old school! I'd love to reply with the usual "well I grew up with a full screen editor that used punch cards", but no, my first comp was an apple IIe in 1983. If this new IDE ever integrated Vi-style editing I'd be onto it in a flash :)
I beat you by one on the 2E, my first was a SWTP 6800 with some home made interface boards that I used to contol my home solar system, nice to see someone that goes back as far as myself. I had a 2 plus after that where I reprogramed the PROM so it would do lower case instead of the just stupid uppper case for everything. I think that was just something Apple was saving so they could sell 2Es.
Remember the 8080 with the toggle switches?

Thanks Neo! I was hoping I didn't have to dump the whole thing in there, but if that's what it takes, no worries. Seems to work fine. (At first I renamed SciTE.exe to metaeditor.exe but that didn't work, and then I saw you said to copy SciTE.exe. Whoops!)

Hm, if I double-click on a function name in the lower-right pane, it jumps to the end of the file instead of taking me to that function. Any guesses?

Heh seller9, yes I remember the 8080's. I even fooled around a bit with a PDP-8 in the early 70's.

Heh, Great, I worked on a PDP 11 (retrired now) with core memory years ago at work (Hospital) used on a CAT Scan.
Sorry, don't mean to distract from the real GEM at this forum, great work on the IDE, I will need to give it a try.

It's not consistent. I realized I could jump to the first two functions in the file I was editing, but double-clicking on any other functions went to the end. I tried a second file and double-clicking on the functions didn't do ANYthing. I tried a third file and the function navigation worked fine. Then I went back and tried the first two files and THEY worked fine. ?? I restarted SciTE and everything worked fine. So... mystery bug. I'll let you know if I can characterize it better.

hehe...i have the same effects sometimes. I just click in the editor window a few times or scroll a little up and down...and then it works again...and if not...do it again...;)

i can live with it for now... ;)
