Hi Khalid.
I have moved the swingOne 1.99 ootb., except position size currently 0.1, to one of my laptops and so can now run it more freely.

As I said, I am only on EURUSD AND GBPUSD at present. You seem to have taken this bit between your teeth so I will ask you if you would like me to run more pairs, and if so, which.

If you want me to run something, just let me know. Here or PM.
Regards,
Altos.

PS. This is on Vantage here in Australia but easy if you want it on another criminal.

Hi Khalid,

I woud like to suggest adding MM as an option i.e. close basket at xx% of equity profit per day.

The balance was up 4% on Monday and another 4% on Tuesday, only to lose it all following the Chicago PMI news release which sent the market into a risk off mode.

Also, the Hanove trend filter is extremely cpu hungry. I would like to suggest the All Averages trend filter which works well with other EA's.

In the meantime, the EA is still performing well, and the balance is still up 11%, having lost all the 8% it gained in the first two days of the week.

Thank you for all efforts.

Cheers,
Peter.

P.S. Have to remove the Hanover trend filter because my laptop keeps seizing up.

Post subject:  Re: swingONE -- Missed trades

With the Hanover trend filter removed, the EA just missed two long entries following a break of the previuos 4hr bar on the EURUSD and AUDUSD (marked by horizontal blue line). Not sure why.

However, it did execute a long on the GBPUSD which went as high as 70 pips before retracing.

I have now added the DoneForThe Day EA from the Change The Colour EA thread to close all trades at 4% profit of the equity.

Presently, the account balance is showing a gain of 13%'

Cheers,
Peter

Thank you for keeping the flag flying.

I completed my backtesting on MultiCharts Monday and since remained quite preoccupied improving the EA (and didn’t even visit the Forum).

Implementing the back test finding is going to be a major task, and shall be done in due course. Meanwhile, I am making:

• Hanover (2 days) a default setting; and
• exit at LowerLow, or HigherHigh, a user selectable option.

I respect you position on, and also understand your reasons for, this. However, over the years I have found taking profits can severely limit your gains over the longer run. Indeed, there is some thuth in the saying: "You can go broke taking profits."

Here is what I suggest: disable in the Hanover indicator all time frames you do not need. All Averages will never do what Hanover does.

I noticed from you DumpHistory, and my DumpHistory, the EA giving back 2/3 of the Run-ups. Therefore, I have designed possible solutions for this. For the time being, however, the exit at LowerLow, or HigherHigh should help.

Despite all the problems I have had with my demo accounts, I know from actual real money trading that 1 period and 2 period, swing charts do work. It is only a matter of combining everything as a workable strategy.

I am extremely grateful for you valuable feedback.

Please keep posting, even if I happen not to agree with you.

Khalid

Hi Khalid,

Thanks again, Khalid.

Hanover trend filter back on the charts with Recent Strength enabled for H4 only.

Any idea why the EA missed the trades for EU and AU ?

Peter

Absolutely right, Khalid. Too many people think that banking a small profit is a guaranteed way to success. But if you don't let your system run up larger profits, your W:L ratio changes. Your losers might start overwhelming your tiny wins. You can turn a winning system into a loser doing that.

That assumes, of course, that you have a trending system/market. If you're trading a reversing / mean-reverting system, there isn't any trend to ride. For systems like that you have to grab small profits before they disappear. But that doesn't apply to SwingONE.

Hi Gary,

Do you consider 4% of equity gains per day tiny profits ?

Post subject:  Re: swingONE

Hi Khalid,

The results of my demo account are not important. What concerns me is that I keep seeing 3 to 4 % of gains generated in the first few hours off trading being wiped out later on during the day in other EA's as well.

Let's take Graeme EA for instance. I have observed several occasions when the EA runs up 200 pips in the first few hours of trading, only to lose it all and more later. It is supposed to be a "trend trading EA" like Swingone. Same problem with the Gday EA. It was up 3% this morning, now it is 8% down. I brought this up in the Gday thread. Unfortunately, nobody took any notice.

We all know that PA in forex do not go up/go down in straight lines. It's five steps forward and two steps back. Why not lock in some profits when we are five steps forward, and rejoin the run again after the retracement.

Anyway, this is not an issue anymore since I found the Donefortheday EA.

Let's not distract you from the main task of improving this EA and keep up the good work.

Best regards,
Peter
