Thanks TJF, for some reason all my 50+ HGI 5 min shorts got cancelled (besides 5) - which caused the DD / anti hedge. Not sure why as I use your post 1 set-up.... Sent you PM... PC |

Just received this question as a PM and felt worth re posting here:
Yes HGBnG with CSS filter only steps in with a STRONG breakout. 100pip moves are nothing on GJ ..Right now the daily range is 1/3 what it was last month. Do be prepared for 1000+ pips minus from RnR. With a 5pip grid this will happen regularly. GridMaster plays a HUGE part. It stops the big drawdown in it's tracks using the 5 x lot size on HGBnG to cut the multiple losing RnR trades on a breakout. It also cuts the profit potential of HGBnG but that is ok. Used in this way HGBnG is our hedge, nothing more. Like for like RnR is many many times more profitable (and risky) than HGBnG so that is why this combo is setup this way. All being said this combo does work very well together and 0.01/0.05 per 5000 is still conservative. I wouldn't even think about trading live a 5pip grid RnR naked with 5000. Even 15000 will get killed at some point by RnR and that is what brought me on my journey of looking at combinations that work together. I am currently working on a set file for RnR that works with a much smaller account using Greedy Wotsit to hedge. 50pip grids on both. Will update the thread this weekend once I am sure. |

Major update in post 1 with all new set files to accommodate a few positive changes from my testing this week and also a smaller account strategy using a much wider grid. I think in a round about way I have found what I was hoping to achieve when I started this journey. In my search for a way to grid trade a smaller account and experimentation with some of the other grid EA's at SHF I have gone in a full circle and come back to HGBnG and RnR. Swapping a 5pip grid for a 50pip grid makes all the different in terms of draw down and activating the MA filter on M1 time frame with RnR has been a revelation. As a result I have ditched the M5 CSS filter on HGBnG and now suggest the same M1 10LWMA as a directional filter. I am adding the 50pip grid strategy alongside the existing 5pip (which has continued to do very well this week) on my demo account so the progress of each can be compared. Whereas we see profits daily from the 5pip grid it may be more like weekly with the 50pip. Trading both together will be interesting. I have decided to keep this thread just for these EA's now and this strategy. If I come up with any other worthwhile EA combinations I will start a TrendRangeCombo2 thread...  |
