Have a play around with the trade managers available for free in this forum and just run alongside HGBnDnSS to handle your preferred configurations of TP and SL. I like to think of a good automated trading strategy as a sports car.. and with a sports car you want it to go fast in a straight line AND go round corners like it's on rails which is why most powerful sports cars are still rear wheel drive. Front wheels do the turning and the rear wheels put the power down. Sometimes seperating tasks is best and improves the overall efficiency. http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... m.php?f=21 |

Ok thanks for that. I will use MPTM for now and likely code my own ATR stops into the EA some time (been a while since I've done any coding though). As Empty4 can be a bit of a resource hog my thinking was the less EAs you need to run the better. |

Have a look at APTM too. It already has the ATR functionality you are looking for and lots more... "You have the possibility to deactivate all ATR inputs with one input this was asked from useres for making the ATR functions more easy to handle DoNeverUseATR set this to true, and the EA will use all your manual inputs, if it is set to false, you can select which calculation you want done by ATR and for which you want to use your manual inputs." |

If you have read my post towards the bottom of p7 you can see that I'm running some very simplistic tests atm, simply trading on every SS colour change and with CloseTradesOnColourChange=true. There is no HTF control. When a trade exits another is opened in the opposite direction on the same candle, so it's a "stop and reverse" type setup. Purpose is not so much to develop a trading system from this just yet, it's to watch and get an understanding of the workings of the EA. An example of what one would expect to see is shown below: Would appreciate feedback from anyone on what they see in the following pic. Consider what may have caused this to happen, or perhaps not to happen. I have my own theory (somewhat backed up by eyeballing the EA for an hour on an M1 chart) but sometimes it's easy to slip into tunnel vision mode, so would like to get other opinions because I may be missing something. Don't get too concerned about the SS indicator at the bottom of the pic, it's not all that relevant just yet, although it could help to resolve the problem, if there is one. |

The EA makes its SS calculations internally. We would need pictures of the event when it happened/failed to happen in order to know what SS values it was working with. There is nothing we can do to help you. |

Well, for the most part it behaves as I would expect it to. There are occasions however (like the 2nd pic in my last post) where it does not work as I would expect. With the very simplistic EA settings I have, when a trade closes another should be opened in the opposite direction on that same candle. For the most part this is what happens. The problem I have with that 2nd pic is there is no short trade on the same candle where that long trade closed. I've seen this happen many times now, seems to happen more the lower the TF. Happens a lot on an M1 chart. See the pic below where the short trade closed on that last candle (EA colour had changed to Green) but no long trade is taken, even though the EA text says "We have a buy signal on the trading time frame". I've been through my set file and can't see a problem (set file is attached). I've been through the code and haven't been able to get to the bottom of it. I did note however that it seems the EA uses the SS value at the current candle (which is continually changing) to make trading decisions e.g. line 738 "if (SsColour[0] == green)". Ofcourse, this could be something I'm just not seeing, but if there is actually a problem here it won't just be affecting me. I'm seeing it because I'm looking at the simplest trading scenario. Edit: After spending a few hours with this I went back and had another look at the code. The problem I was having appears to be the PostTradeAttemptWaitSeconds setting which is set to 10min in the default set file. Changed it to zero and not a missed trade on 20 pairs on M1 in the last 10 minutes. It does ofcourse explain why I saw it more on lower TFs. Is this setting needed anymore?. |

Hi Ray, Looks as though you are just trading the H1 SS when in sync with H4. Those results are fantastic but yes somewhat skewed by GBP moves after the election announcement (best moves in GBP for quite a long time). I can offer suggestions on SS setttings that you might consider testing: Some of the settings aren't in your set file? Is that because you modified the code?. E.g are you using CloseTradesOnColourChange? I think that setting should always be used. Will get you out of bad trades as a kind of fail proof exit of last resort. I believe this setting will also get you out when things go belly up during rollover (on lower TFs). I mentioned SS settings of 14,50 a while back as that seems to avoid entries during choppy periods. I'm also testing threshold settings on the trading TF atm and 0.8 seems to get rid of most of the remaining chop. These settings do however mean later entries and earlier exits, but you definitely don't want to be trading SS during choppy conditions. Get on a good move and get a decent chunk of it by staying on as long as possible. Note that if you use a threshold and CloseTradesOnColourChange then trades will exit on yellow SS colour. I made a very slight mod to the code so that SS yellow is also ignored for exits. This is all about riding the move as long as possible. You don't want the grid you just built to be taken out by a small reaction where SS turns yellow, and then you have to start building that grid all over again. Can I ask what are you using to manage the trades, stop, TP etc. |

I believe this setting will also get you out when things go belly up during rollover (on lower TFs). Your right I always use that option but it looks like its not in the SS version that I’m using, NO I didn’t change any code. This EA has gone through several updates but no version change so I’m now listing the date of the last change in the general input and the name. I realized this two days a go but decided to wait till next week, but good observation. I mentioned SS settings of 14,50 a while back as that seems to avoid entries during choppy periods. Get on a good move and get a decent chunk of it by staying on as long as possible. I tried 14-50 & 14-100 several times but didn’t trust them because if you try 16,17-50, the pairs flip flop. I’ll give them another go.What TFs do you think work the best with the 14-50 Note that if you use a threshold and CloseTradesOnColourChange then trades will exit on yellow SS colour. I made a very slight mod to the code so that SS yellow is also ignored for exits. This is all about riding the move as long as possible. You don't want the grid you just built to be taken out by a small reaction where SS turns yellow, and then you have to start building that grid all over again. I have used thresholds before but the dips always seem to cause false exits and entries especially in lower TFs. I’m not sure what you mean by “then trades will exit on yellow SS colour”?? Can you elaborate? Can I ask what are you using to manage the trades, stop, TP etc. The set file I attached is for “milaneseTM_244”. That is the SL & TP controller. I’m considering also using a basket for the TP what with 5-8 positions open but need a trailing Basket, haven’t found it yet. Several SS versions back I found that low SL & Low TP seemed to work the best. I am a US citizen so I’m trying to win without hedging & offsetting. Thanks for insights Ray |
