Wow! Impressive! You have much better results than I did. Looks like I need to do a little investigating! Thanks for posting your trades. This will allow me to see where I went wrong. |

Yeah nice one Ian! I have been running SSF3 since Weds afternoon, and had 13 trades all close as winners (mostly at breakeven, a couple a bit better), total of 225 pips. However, we have always seen these long winning streaks and we have to try and make sure the losers when they inevitably come are limited or controlled enough to keep on the right side of the ledger. The look at the wider currency strength conditions didn't really turn up anything actionable. I have another week's ticks in the database, so am rerunning some of the analysis on TP targets and SL settings and will post some pretty pictures in a little while. |

Ok, here are the results over the last 8 weeks or so (for the pairs that Alpari UK offer on their spreadbetting platform, AUDCAD has a bit less history due to user error On an average basis a TP of 100 is the most successful, but you have to take the average duration in the last 2 columns into account, at a SL of 260 you need to be prepared to hold the position for almost a week. Looking at total pips, TP of between 70 to 100 looks optimal. The bigger SL is more successful on a pips basis, but with those potential big losses, you might need to look at a smaller lot size to keep your risk under control. Hope this is food for thought. If anyone has any wild theories that I might be able to model, please let me know... |

Moved to 70 pip TP on 130 SL as of today, and have had 3 winners for 210 pips, 9 trades still open net in profit... |

Nothing new has opened for me since yesterday morning, but as there will only ever be 1 trade per pair open, and I have 8 open trades currently, it's difficult to say whether it should have taken any trades today or not. If you look on each pair, and see what the stretch is on the info panel, and try and see if you find any over 0.7, with a Htf level between 0.1 and 0.5 (plus or minus). |

Thanks again for your analysis of Stretchy, Feucht! I have been looking at your "total pips" spreadsheet. It seems to me that if you can handle huge drawdowns, 70 TP and 260 SL is the best setting. Like you mentioned, I would think that one would want to reduce lots for that setting. Of course, if I am going to reduce it by half, I might as well just stick with the 70TP and 130SL and reduce the amount of time that my money is exposed. (?) There are, obviously, rows where that is not true, but it does seem to be the rule rather than the exception. I see that you moved your Tp to 70 and SL to 130. Did you arrive at those numbers for similar reasons? |

I have expanded this a bit running against other SL levels, looks like you have to go quite a bit higher to get any real benefit. 70 - 100 TP looks pretty good, and I prefer the quicker style of a smaller SL. I may tweak to TP 90 SL 140 next week (this is all demo of course!). So far this week 6 TPs for 420 pips minus 2 SLs for -260, so a net 160, both the losses down to our friends in the Reserve Bank of Australia Inspired by Nanningbob's new thread on 10.2a, I am also looking at the relative positions of the weekly and monthly pivots, and perhaps using that as an additional consideration as to whether to take a trade or not, calcs are running currently and I will report if there is anything of interest that comes out of that. |
