Reversals on all eur/gbp/jpy crosses - all have broken 240 line - this is the reason of huge loses in last two days.

The ea handled the release of US NFP very badly this afternoon. My Cowboy IBFX 10K DEMO lost more than 10%. I left my live micro account to see how it handled the news release, the end result was poor, wiped off 7% of the account.

Fortunately, manual trading stalking the yen pairs made up all the losses.

Do not expect the ea to know how to react to any major economic news, this is the job of the trader. In future, my live account ea will only be turned on after the dust has settled following any major news release.

We all know that this is not a set and forget ea. In fact, quite a lot of discretion is required in managing it.

Edit : Sorry, wrong maths, the loss from the Cowboy IBFX DEMO was just over 4%, not 10%.

I was waiting for the yen pairs to retrace enough to trade 10.4 today but they never did.

If you look at the H1 charts, 10.5 would have gathered quite a few pips. In fact, it is not too difficult to modify the 10.4 ea to trade 10.5 strategy by changing the trading time frame to H1 and the weekly pivots to daily pivots.

Unfortunately, I only thought of this now and did not run the 10.5 today.

Perhaps, when MrLong returns from his vacation next week, he may consider giving his permission to release the 10.5 ea, preferably in a thread run by himself or one of our experienced coders.

The yen moves are pretty strong and I do not expect much retrace next week; the 10.5 could come in handy.

Hi All

Bad week for me with 10.4 EA - over 12% down in demo account. I think when there is "significant" fundamental news, perhaps this EA would need to be switched off. In Bobs thread he was at pains to point out indicators would be useless in the face of such movements. One to think about perhaps.

We now have about 3 weeks worth of data to analysis, which can give us an idea where to make improvements, I don't want to turn away from this strategy, because in all fairness it works, my account
I've been running for 3 weeks started with 25k and now it is 26890.

We can look at things like make sure the 240ma is still making higher highs or lower lows for a short.
We can also check the 3 weeks worth of data for patterns where the trades lose if taken at certain distance
away from the EA, we can also check which pairs work best with this system.

I'm looking to add check boxes like the buttons next to the pairs, one for long trades and one for short trades, so the trader can decide if he doesn't want to trade a pair then un-tick the box.

Glad to see you're still positive on it Andy :) I still see a lot of potential in this system - at the very least its a roughly break-even proposition now, with periods where it goes into substantial drawdown when the market reverses/ranges and periods of (hopefully) substantial profit when pullbacks give way to trend continuations.

Also happy to see those checkboxes on the agenda, will definitely help. Right now the only option is to have the EA running, which means entering new trades etc, or turned off either for individual pairs via the exclude string or altogether. When turned off baskets won't be closed.

I know Bob's systems are highly discretionary, but an EA must be able to perform without constant manual intervention. After all if you need to be too heavily involved, what's the point of having it automated at all? I'm working on some other EA ideas, but I'll keep testing this & doing what I can to help.

You have either lost the stdlib.mq4 file in your Empty4 installation or it is corrupted.

Do the following:

1. Close Empty4
2. Go to the experts/libraries subdirectory of your Empty4 installation
3. If you see a copy the stdlib, delete both the .mq4 and .ex4 version of this file
4. copy the attached version into the experts/libraries.
5. restart Empty4 and try you EA again.

Another idea - as the NFP comes out at the same time each month, would it be possible to allow the user to specify the hour at which its released (thus allowing for broker GMT+/- differences) and a boolean to specify whether the EA should enter new trades during, say, an hour each side of the report? If the user chooses false then the EA cancels all pendings and doesn't start adding new ones until the NFP is past. Might be useful for those of us who are usually asleep when its released ;)
