If the user chooses false then the EA cancels all pendings and doesn't start adding new ones until the NFP is past. Might be useful for those of us who are usually asleep when its released ;)
Many pairs that went into the red yesterday were entered many hours before NFP release. You would have to close all ongoing trades before news release to avoid the catastrophe encountered yesterday.

Unfortunately, there is no easy answer. For me in GMT+ 1 time zone, I would normally stop all trading an hour or two before NFP if there is anything worth trading on NFP day and restart half an hour after news release. Yesterday, letting my live micro account running during NFP release resulted in a big loss. So, lesson learned.

I think it is way to soon to make any assumptions.

There are still bugs popping up, so the system is still in development.

I would stay clear of putting in any more filters in this phase. Just get everything working as intended. After everybody is sure that the entry signal is correct, then start working on the exits. When the exits work properly then add filters.

This week may have been a big loss, but it is just one week.

By discretion, I meant avoid running the ea during periods when the market may be distorted by high impact news releases like NFP/FOMC minutes, etc, and restarting when things have settled down.

I am confident that when "normal" trading resumes, this ea will capture the 10.4 trades that Bob has shown to be profitable in the long run.

We can look at things like make sure the 240ma is still making higher highs or lower lows for a short.
We can also check the 3 weeks worth of data for patterns where the trades lose if taken at certain distance away from the EA, we can also check which pairs work best with this system.

I'm looking to add check boxes like the buttons next to the pairs, one for long trades and one for short trades, so the trader can decide if he doesn't want to trade a pair then un-tick the box.

Glad to see you're still positive on it Andy :) I still see a lot of potential in this system - at the very least its a roughly break-even proposition now, with periods where it goes into substantial drawdown when the market reverses/ranges and periods of (hopefully) substantial profit when pullbacks give way to trend continuations.

Also happy to see those checkboxes on the agenda, will definitely help. Right now the only option is to have the EA running, which means entering new trades etc, or turned off either for individual pairs via the exclude string or altogether. When turned off baskets won't be closed.

I know Bob's systems are highly discretionary, but an EA must be able to perform without constant manual intervention. After all if you need to be too heavily involved, what's the point of having it automated at all? I'm working on some other EA ideas, but I'll keep testing this & doing what I can to help.
Hi,

I've been in this game long enough to know it is not possible to automate an EA sit back and relax,
especially on NFP day.

This EA is still in development and making good progress, it is an achievement if you are able to have an EA that is breaking even, 98% of traders blow their account.

I have another EA I have developed and is profitable but I'm not happy with the drawdown, I will add the trailing percent to that EA and see what happens.

Have a nice weekend

Andy

No, that version has the useMaBoundy filter set to false.

Ok no problem, was just typing ideas off the top of my head as usual :)

Actually my accounts all had losing runs from Wednesday onwards, and NFP was just the icing on the cake of a bad week. The worst was a long on USDCHF at 0.9520, right in time for it to turn and plummet down. Then two longs in succession on GBPCHF that immediately turned and ran for their stops and several AUD based longs (and an EURAUD short) that failed badly.

That is what I saw as well. the NFP wasn't the turning point, Wednesday was the day that most pairs started to deviate from the trend. Looking at the charts you could see most pairs breaking multiple weekly support/resistances against the trend in a row. It looks like a seizable turn in sentiment.

Easier to see in hindsight ;)

You could hedge your existing trades on NFP morning.

Great idea, may not be an option for our friends across the pond.
