Post subject:  SRF TRADING EA

You know I am always very scared of suggesting anything to do with EA coding. Steve knows why! I have a habit of thinking something is very easy to code which is in fact almost impossible and vice-versa. :?

Anyhow, at the risk of making a fool of myself  I was going to suggest that for the time being maybe it may be an idea to have separate EAs for separate strategies. In particular I was thinking of SRF trades. These trades are only applicable to certain pairs only and do not strictly follow the criteria of the other trades. I guess this one would be easy to code, but since I know jack S***, it may be the case that I am totally wrong (it won`t be the first or the last) :D . In the booklet Bob describes how in some instances TP can be the opposing S/R level then as soon as TP is hit a Countertrend to the pivot line can be made. This part could be an option.

Kind Regards

IMHO it is better to view a strategy as a set of components. In this case, NB 10.2 uses a set of indicators (weekly open, TMA slope, pivot points, 5 MA, etc) to extrapolate a trade strategy.

Thusly, indicators are a component and the trade strategy is a component. By decoupling them, it's more advantageous as you now can use the Empty4 optimization tools to enhance potential returns.

Just something to think about, if you split trade types into separate EA's, it may seem convenient in the near term however is a cause of frustration for future development and subsequent optimization as you always have to remember what worked and what didn't. By having multiple trade types and a standard set of components, you can ensure that improvements can be stair stepped while retaining the development memory.

.02 cents, no offense intended.

Thanks
Hi Verb,
I'm following Steve on this as well as TIB's trades and comments on FF for now, but as you were mentioning, i will look out for the posiibility of a trade as you mention and see how it go's. i cant promise i'll pick them all up but when i'm staring at my monitors, i would like to try this though.

I dont think it's as complicated as it initially seems but must ask this, do you treat the exit as a manual trade exit, or include all positions taken as part of the MPTM basket.?

and, would you consider this trade/s as 'stacking' or 'recovery' or would it not matter what the previous position was in.?

hope i'm not confusing in case i've miss-understood.
reagrds and thanks for the input, very dizzy after the 7th read,

astral, your post set me thinking. verb is spot on; separating out the EA's will lead to complications when we then decide to re-combine them. LUC's eyes lit up as soon as you suggested this.

Instead, how about some boolean inputs to allow/disallow certain trading stules - TradeD1, TradeD1H4, TradeRange etc? Would this help?
--------------------------------------------------------------------

verb, I have a couple of favours to ask as you appear to have the best handle on all this. The tables you produced were magnificent. Do you have time to repeat the process for Counter-trend and swf trades?

Then, could you put it all together in a booklet that traders can use as a bullet-point summary of the methods, and as a check-list before pulling the trigger? I bet there are a fair few guys at FF who would love to have such a document as well. Say 'no' if you have not got the time.

Version 1g is in post 1. Nothing new, but I reliased I had not added the Range trading magic number to the function that detects open trades. NB will not recognise that it owns a range trade without this fix.

I am not going to do any fresh coding today. I have some work to do for a concert tomorrow, the first post in the manual tools thread needs rewriting, and NB's trading opportunity code is becoming messy. It needs the structure to be clearer, so the actual decision making needs putting in separate functions. The coders know what I am wittering about here.

Verb if you do this I'll make it look all nice and pretty (graphic designer here) for a PDF to be added to the 10.2 packet.

For testing purpose, I manually closed some trades to see if the EA re-open just after and yes it does.
So don't be surprised seeing strange things on the myfxbook tracking :P
Hi

EA re-open same trade just after a trade was closed by SL ? is this normal way ?

It works that way.
Is it normal ? I don't know... If the indicators are still saying BUY, it BUYS.
That's why I'm trying differents operations with the EA to see how it does "in real life".

We might need to disable trading during the candle that saw the trade closure. We shall see.
