My results for this week on my LIVE Cowboy Go Markets account trading 4H were a gain of 1.2% in closed equity.
Currently no trades open.
BASA_closed_LIVE_trades_we_131207.png
Given the markets will be slowing down soon for Christmas I'll be trading BASA normally next week, however still considering how I will approach it thereafter.

This is what I am considering for my LIVE account:
1. Reduce lot sizes and continue trading as I already am
2. Retain same lot sizes and change BE settings to 20 +2
3. Reduce lot sizes and change BE settings to 20+2
4. Stop trading altogether until after the Christmas period

Given I first started trading BASA in July when liquidity was also low for the Northern summer, I am quite confident that BASA will handle the slow market over the Christmas period...at this stage I am leaning to No. 2 but we will see ;)

My demo's will continue to run as they are.

Hello,

Trend Line / Angle Filter

I'm exploring a filter to use with Harmonics but thought this might also suit BASA entry on retrace. Also it might help trigger close positions at start of retrace.

The idea is simple, real simple, it uses a trend line from candle close > close, in this example I have used 10 candle count but this could easily be optimised with backtesting.

BUY trigger - 60/240 MA direction is up, Trend Angle changes from negative to positive. Close open positions when Trend Angle changes from positive to negative.

SELL trigger - 60/240 MA direction is down, Trend Angle changes from positive to negative. Close open positions when Trend Angle changes from negative to positive.

The threshold amount of +/- angle could also be optimised. Perhaps you want different threshold angels for opening to closing trigger. Say a bigger candle count for closing to filter out the bumps so you don't prematurely close out winners. Say use 50 candle count trend line for closing.

Because it focuses on a small section of data I am hoping to test it on any TF - M1>D1. If you used a Magic Number to identify position TF with tighter SL/TP on LTF and looser SL/TP on HTF positions. Using Max Spread to filter out news events, say spread widens pre-news then EA sleeps for 1hr.

Do you mean you're drawing a line from a candle's Close to the Close 10 candles later? And then paying attention to when that changes sign?

If so, I think it's going to change trend a lot more often than you think. Here I've plotted Close - Close-10-candles-ago at the bottom, and I marked everywhere it changes sign. The whipsaws would kill you.

With this one I smoothed the trend indicator: EMA(Close - Close-10-ago, 10). That cleans it up a lot but it's still not a very good trend signal. Only 2 out of 7 signals were positive.

If you were thinking of something else, then nevermind...

Hi Garyfritz,

Yes correct - you're checking close of one candle versus the close of the nth previous. It filters out the noise in between the two candles and confirms the trend is continuing or retracing.

That's an interesting chart, thanks - it does show it picking up the return to trend after a retracement. So since this is an uptrend you'd be looking for where it crossed 0 from below, as this would be a positive angle trend line between the two candles.

If you used Break-Even SL here only one would have been closed out with the dip in the middle. And a bit of "pain" on the last entry - if you were willing to risk a bigger SL. Perhaps a good place for initial SL would be the low prior to entry.

Remember we are only using this as a smaller filter to an overall 60/240 MA trend to pick up the entries after a retracement. Or use a bigger candle count to validate rally is fading or retracing to trigger closing positions and bank your pips.

I randomly picked 10 candle count back, obviously you could optimse this with backtesting. And also optimse the the angle of the line between candle close - which is really a calculation of the divergence of two candles close (n) bars apart.

If it's not too much to ask, are you able to do drop that indi on some other charts to get a better view?

Any charts in particular? Here are a couple...

BTW don't assume optimizing this would accomplish any magic. This indicator is basically tuning to the "frequency" of the market. The faster the pair cycles up/down/up/down, the shorter your lookback and EMA should be. But the market frequency changes all the time. You might find a lookback that works better in most conditions than 10, but no lookback is always right.
