I saw this system on the forex factory and Im trying to learn and understand it I posted a question there and I was advised to go here. I normally like to trade the H1 and I did some backtesting on that timeframe combined with the H4. The results where to good to be true so I asked on ff what I missed (see text bellow) Hi, I was looking at this system and it seems to work very good. I did some backtesting on the H4 and H1 charts. I did this by scrolling back. when the TMA slop on the H4 was collerd light green or red I switched to the H1 chart and waited till the slop there was also light green or red. after that I entered on a break of the ma line. My SL was 20 pips above the swing high or low and I when the slope on the H4 was above or below the .04/-.04 I started looking at the H1 for the tp. as soon as the slope closes there bellow/above the .04/-.04 I closed the trade the results are amazing. they are so good the I wonder if I miss something. I also did this test on the D1 and H4. the difference was that I let it run there till the D1 slope was below the .04/-.04 the results where amazing again. less trades but a very good risk reward ratio are the charts showing something different when looking back as they do when you look realtime? I will try this also in a demo but I hope some can tell me if my results are correct the way I did it Thanks After reading this forum I come to the conclusion that this way of backtesting does not give the results of realtime trading. Do I understand that correctly. Probably this is a stupid question and I will spent the next days by reading as much as I can in the forum. I hope in the mean time that one of the experienced traders can tell me if it’s possible to trade like this on the H4 and H1 (If I understand correctly that is the way in the ranging periods) I do look at the D1 for the direction. Thanks for your time and patience Greetings Sois |

Quick answer is yes if you are backtesting the indicator does not show what was there in the past. We like to use TMA in forward testing. If you want to backtest grab one of the TMA True indicators from Baluda or NeoTraders threads in this sub-forum: http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... m.php?f=45 Also, read through this entire thread if you want the entire lowdown. |

I'm sorry, but I have real issues with the repainting. For example, in one of Bob's booklets, he refers to USDJPY and the start of an uptrend. He shows this using the standard TMA Slope. However, if you look at it with TMA True, you can see that in real time, AT THE TIME, it certainly wouldn't have been telling you about the start of a new uptrend...... Saying that the repainting doesn't matter is one thing, but using historical charts to show something that NEVER ACTUALLY HAPPENED is something altogether different. I am not here to attack Bob or start trolling around this forum. I would LOVE to be able to trade as well as Bob does, and you guys on here. My own personal take on this is that you shouldn't use it for entries, but it is still valid for exits. Thanks, Rob http://screencast.com/t/zvXA29tYz |

Yes I have read the entire thread - several times. In your haste to shout someone down, you are completely missing the point. Well done. There is a chart and explanation in one of Bob's books which explicitly refers to the TMA Slope showing the start of a new uptrend. However, if you put TMA Slope True on the chart, it shows that you would not have seen that what Bob was showing AT THE ACTUAL TIME. I fear a case of the Emperor's New Clothes............... |
