When trading live, I also follow TIB's suggestion of the best time to take profit. If I have a decent profit 1-2 hours before US session, I close all trades. Turn off expert advisors before closing trades because if conditions are right the EA will re-enter.SteveHopwood wrote:Good point. I will add them.fxshadow wrote:Running 1b live and I can see some legs. Working on transferring the set over to the current version. I'd feel better if it had some scoobs/kiwi margin checks.
In the meantime, and for the few other people here who actually understand what is going on, how are we doing?
The reason I ask is, I have severe doubts about waiting for a Slope thingy to trigger a trade closure. This is based on the whole thrust of Slope, which I describe in post 1. Therefore, waiting for Slope to trigger a closure means the market has so far against the trade that it could turn from a magnificent winner into a loser.
Pre the latest mods last week, my demo made 4% without taking any real risk. Real risk would have quintupled the account.![]()
Today, waiting for Slope to trigger a closure, the open trades were at one point another +4%. Normal opposite direction FB's would have closed them and locked in the profit. Because I am awaiting a Slope-triggered closure, most of this profit has disappeared.
This is not to say that said profit will not reappear tomorrow and extend, and that this time tomorrow I will be reporting +10% Frankly, I doubt it. My experience of Forex is this: when profit is going, take it, as it will not be there in a few minutes time.
Anybody else has a similar experience?

Re: Flying Slope auto-trading EA
Hi Steve,
That was my thinking yesterday as well, my trades started around the Asian open hours and stayed in positive float all day, the profits started to go backwards and I thought oh no, going to lose a lot of these pips if I wait for the exit to be triggered, luckily they moved back up again so I closed them as a basket. Results attached. I think waiting for the slope to trigger the exit a lot of profits could be lost. Will watch it closely again today and see how it goes.
Lovely profits for 1 day!
Cheers,
Marlene

It must be worthwhile considering using mptm to close the trades as a basket as well.sandybeach wrote:Hi Steve,

Those of us testing on demo live in a bit of a false world. Suppose FS trades reach 4% of balance? If we run a $100 demo because we think we might try to build something similar into wealth and riches and the upl reaches 4%, who cares about the $4 profit? If we are testing on a $1000 account, because that is all we could afford to risk live, the $40 doesn't really register?
Suppose we are trading a $100,00 live account. Suddenly, that $4,000 means something. I do not make $4000 in 4 months as a piano teacher.
Food for thought?
Read the effing manual, ok?

I have zero experience with FS, but that's never kept me from having an opinion.SteveHopwood wrote:This is not to say that said profit will not reappear tomorrow and extend, and that this time tomorrow I will be reporting +10% Frankly, I doubt it. In my limited observation of TMA Slope's behavior, it seems it takes quite a long time to hit the trigger levels. Using D1 TMA = 0.40 as my signal, 200-300 pips from the trend turn was common.
If the pair trends strongly enough, you can miss 200-300 pips at the start and still catch a good move. But if you miss 200-300 at the start AND at the end, waiting for the slope to essentially reverse, you require a very large trend if you want to have any left for your account. Sounds like you're seeing that today.
I'd look for a way to close that didn't require a full slope reversal. Something quicker. It would be nice if we could find a trend signal that didn't take so long to enter, too, but that's easier said than done.
I wonder how it would work to use "D1 TMA crossing through zero, and H4 TMA confirming" as a quicker trend-change signal? D1 is like an aircraft carrier and doesn't turn sharply. If it's passing through zero with a boost from H4, the chances of it fizzling out before it hits 0.4 seem slim... and that would get you in on (or out of) the new trend a LOT sooner.

Re: Flying Slope auto-trading EA
Gary,
was puzzling about this.... Given the calculation of GetSlope based on TMACalc, we should be able to come up with a calculation on what pip movement is necessary to move a given tf's slope by 0.1 - a bit beyond my math skills but should be possible....
Also, could you have a look at the TMACalc / Getslope calculation - the integer shift is not really used as a variable, it is always zero and then shifted in a couple of places, isn't it?
Cheers

Re: Flying Slope auto-trading EA
Just closed another basket of 5 for around 200 pips (around 400 pips for the week). I'll restart the expert right after my next 4hr candle. Still running 1b, but will change to the latest version for the margin checks.
I had three trades that were slightly negative 1hr before NY opens which is one of the times I look to take profit so I just let them ride until the next time I look to take profit which is around lunch NY time. You have to run this thing on as many pairs as possible to catch the trades. I'm using Cowboy IBFX live.
