SERIOUS WARNING
  • Most Forex traders lose all their money.
  • Using the robot posted here in trading Forex does not guarantee success.
  • Trading this robot could lead to serious financial loss.
  • Trading this robot without understanding its underlying trading strategies guarantees traders will lose their money.
  • This is not a set-and-forget ea; there is no such thing and anyone who tries to claim there is, is either stupid or lying. This ea requires frequent manual intervention.
  • At best, a trading robot is only 90% as good as the manual strategy it trades. At best. At worst, it can be much less effective. If the strategy is rubbish, so is the robot.
  • To trade this robot, you have to understand:
    • How to use EA's. Remember to set CriminalIsECN to 'true' if your crim insists on two-stage order sending.
    • Moving averages
I am not yet trading this EA on my live account

Read dsugums' description of his strategy at http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... f=16&t=862; they do not come much simpler that this one.

The attached template will place the moving averages on your chart for you.

dsu draws the pivots. You will rarely see them - they tend to be a long way away from the market on an M5 chart. If you live in Upside Down land and your crim has a Saturday candle, set CriminalHasSaturdayCandle to true. If you live in Europe and your crim has a Sunday candle, set CriminalHasSundayCandle to true. This avoids confusion when dsu calculates the Daily Pivot on Monday.

TakeProfitPips defaults to 20. If dsu detects a pivot in between the calculated take profit and the current market price, it amends the tp to be the pivot price. If the new TP is so close to the market that the crim will not accept it, dsu will abort the trade. Coders, dus calculates this by ascertaining the MODE_STOPLEVEL and adding the spread. I am not sure how accurate this is because I code on an Cowboy IBFX Aussie demo, and the function always returns zero. Helpful as always, the guys at IB.

There is a StopLossPips inputs but the zero default reflects dusgums' SL method of a close outside the opposite MA. dsu takes care of that.

The MA inputs are fully configurable and default to those used in drawing the MA's on the chart. Watch your FastMaTdTF input. The default of 5 means the bot is always reading the M5 MA's, so you can change chart tf without disturbing dsu. A zero value means the current chart tf.

Watch the default tradingHours input - they are set up so the bot can trade Tokyo & London in my time zone:
  • Use 24 hour clock and enter times as they are on your clock when the markets open and close.
  • Qustions about telling the time are forbidden and will be deleted, along with the answer that anyone is kind enough to give. If unsure about telling the time, enlist a buddy to help.
CCI
Details about this filter at http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... 119#p70119 aworex has since clarified CCI use for me:
  • Taking a buy trade as an example:
    • market has crossed the high moving average, so the slow CCI is used (SlowCciPeriod).
      • send the trade when the slow CCI > 0.
    • market is above the high moving average and there has not been a cross:
      • wait for a retrace to the high moving average.
      • take the trade when the fast CCI (FastCciPeriod) is > 0
Use of CCI is disabled by setting SlowCciPeriod to -1; this also disables the fast CCI.

User guide
All the usual inputs are available for margin checks and trade management etc. The attached Shell user guide has explanations for a lot of them if you are not happy just to go with the defaults.

So, pop dsu onto a few low-spread charts and see if he does the business.

A Stochastic crept into the template somehow. If you downloaded a template with Stoch, delete the Stoch as it does not form part of the system.

Those of you getting sell trades on a 2-stage wally-plonker-dipstick crim demo will have seen those strange OrderModify errors.

V 1a in post 1 is a fix for this. You do not need the update if your wpd is not a 2-stage wpd.

V 1b is in post 1, in reponse to this pm from aworex:
Hi Steve,

I have been using this brilliant EA with a few modifications of lately, as I trade using the 34 EMA waves I was wondering if you could assist in adding a filter to using the CCI.

If you will be willing willing to test the EA using the following settings

1.34 EMA High
ii.34 EMA Low
iii.34 EMA close ( I use this instead of the original 200 MA)

Timeframe: - I use the 1HR and 4HR timeframes , why scalp for 30pips when I can net 100pips on a few pairs every day !!
Now the greasy bit here is using the CCI 50 period as a filter, so on whatever timeframe the rule is simple
Go long when the CCI is Above the zero line and price is above the 34 EMA high
Go Short when the CCI is below the zero line and price is below the 34 EMA Low.
If this filter can be incorporated into the EA coupled with all the bells and whistles already in place , we would have created a mega ATM machine.
So, V 1b incorporates this. I have since received a couple more pm's from aworex, neither of which made sense but which appear to state that his/her usage of the above is actually slightly different.

So, I post this here and over to aworex to make further comments. Bear in mind guys, that despite being the forum owner and bill-payer, I am one of those unable to receive subscribed thread notifications and so might need a pm prompt should anything useful emerge here.

From my testing the strategy presents 2 types of profitable entries the standard entries are
1. A Cross above the 34 EMA High for long breakouts provided the CCI period 50 is above the 0 line &
2.A cross below the 34 EMA Low for short breakouts provided the CCI period 50 is below the 0 line.

The current version of the EA will initiate the above types of setups.

Now in the event that price is already above the 34 EMA high or below the 34 EMA low,in strong trending environments, as we all know price will always retrace back to the EMA's ( i.e a reversion back to the mean price) with some traders thinking the instrument is overbought or oversold.
To rejoin the trend the use of the CCI period 14 will present perfect times to re-enter a long trade by pulling the trigger when the CCI period 14 is above the 0 line for long entries and if going short the CCI period 14 below the 0 line.

So in essence to capture the retracement setups another CCI filter of period 14 will need to be added to the EA to tee up retracement setups.

Post subject:  Re: An auto-trader for dsugums' 34EMA High Low scalping

Hi all,
i think we might have given up here but going to post the results so far and what i noticed. not a winner, but also not a loser. Entry was good, but closing positions needed work.
Attached is the EA is modded slightly, with a set file hardcoded. Results were very slow to come in and running on 15M charts. The idea was to get the jumping to work as i noticed the entry points were not that bad at all. Generally if i glanced at the charts, the EA seemed to be going in the general direction the pair was trading in, but i suspect my trailing stop was too close again.maybe. Never changed it, as too scared to get higher losses.
Its here if anyone can spot my mistake, or better the results.
regards
cuz
