Reinstallation Didn't Seem to Work

Post subject:  Reinstallation Didn't Seem to Work
I tried to do a reinstallation of Empty4 because I couldn't get an indicator to work and a new chart kept reappearing that I don't even have listed as 'show'. I figured something might have gone a bit iffy. So I uninstalled it, cleared out the registry with 2 programs, checked that the files were gone, restarted the computer, then reinstalled Empty4. At first everything appeared new, then I logged into my account and everything reappeared as though I hadn't uninstalled it! I don't know where everything came from. Do brokers keep indicators and open chart information in our accounts? If I didn't uninstall it right, how is it done?

Windows 7,8 and Vista, screw with file locations. It tries to put your personal stuff in Users\username\AppData\.... Empty4 doesn't handle it well. The uninstall doesn't remove those files properly.

Try installing it in a location other than c:\program files\ i.e c:\Empty4\

If your not on one of the above OS's. Not sure what to tell you.

If you installed Empty4 in your standard Program Files Folder then Windows will create a parallel folder in C:\Users\<YouUserName>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\<YourMetatraderFolder>\
You normally don't see this Folder unless you enable to show hidden Files and Folders in your Explorer.

I don't have an english windows version so most of the labels I describe are guesses. But should be near the real thing.

try following:
  • open a Explorer Window (WindowsKey+E)
  • Press <Alt> once you should then see the menu on top of the Explorer Windows
  • select the menu Extras and then Folderoptions
  • In the new window that pops up select the second tab (maybe views)
  • scroll down the list until you see a folder Symbol that is labeled "Hidden Files and Folders"
  • enable to show this hidden files
  • press OK Button
  • Now look for the Directory I described above.
  • go to your Empty4 directory and either backup the data or delete it
  • than start your Empty4 again
  • it should work now.
  • Please don't forget to set the hidden Files & Directories back to be unseen
    You can do serious damage if you delete something without knowing.
Generally I would advise against installing Empty4 in the standard location (program Files).
create a Folder in C:\ maybe called trading and install your Empty4 versions there...
You wouldn't have to deal with the VirtualStore problem and also some other annoyances.
