Zoom to specific chart location on smaller TF?

Post subject:  Zoom to specific chart location on smaller TF?
Over the years I've learned a lot of little 'hidden' tricks with Empty4. But one function that continues to drive me nuts is this... I'm hoping somebody might know a hidden secret for this!

Basically I do analysis on a larger timeframe (say H4) and then need to zoom to a smaller timeframe to find a specific pip level (say M15)

What I do now is to draw a rectangle on the general area I want to investigate. I also glance down to see the approximate date (say April 2008)

Then I switch to the lower TF but have to manually hunt back to find my rectangle. It can take a long time, and it seems very unproductive. What would be ideal is a way to zoom directly to an anchor point (ie my rectangle) on any timeframe. Why can't Empty4 already do this basic feature? or is there something I'm missing?

Believe it or not, your halfway there already! Just a couple more steps and you got it! :)
After you put your rectangle around the price bars you want to look closer at, give it a good name and description. So you know what it is and why you marked it as in the pic below.

Now change the time frame to the one you want. After you have the time frame changed, right click on the chart and click Objects list. Then find the object that you just created and named in the list and click on it to hightlight it. Then all you have to do is click on "SHOW" and it will take you right to that object. No more looking for it! :)

Another reason to get descriptive in name etc. is some time later if your not sure why you highlighted the area, you can just hover over the object and the pop-up box will have the description for you! :)

You can also use the "fast navigation" entry line. Say you're looking at H4 and you find an interesting feature like Satch's low that you want to view on an M30 chart.

* Turn off Auto Scroll (which keeps returning you to the current bar)
* Note the time / date of your interesting feature.
* Click the M15 button.
* Type Enter, then the date/time of your feature, then Enter. Use date/time format like "2013.01.15 18:00".

The first Enter opens up the "fast navigation" line. You enter the date/time where you want to move, and the second Enter executes it.

If you want, you can type "Enter, m15, Enter" instead of clicking the M15 button.

Or, even easier: if Empty4 will let you, move the H4 chart so your interesting feature is at the LEFT edge of the chart. (You won't be able to do this if your feature is in the recent past and your window is too wide. Making your chart window narrower might let you move it.) Then just click M15. The left-most candle in the H4 chart will be the left-most candle in the M15 chart.

Thanks guys, it helps a lot!! I use objects all the time... never really used that Show button though!

I did know about the fast navigation trick but I don't use it for this purpose. I use it to "replace" a pair inside an already-existing sub-window. The reason I find this useful is because I trade all 26 pairs my broker offers but in multiple accounts. For my own sanity, I need the window layouts to be identical between accounts (Window-> Tile Vertical). I've found that Empty4 can be wonky at times, occasionally swapping pair window locations. But if you use the fast-nav trick you can reset a pair to a specific sub-window and it will stay.

No worries, I will :) I'm still nailing down the strategy a bit. My proudest achievement is the R:R on this account. I'm dropping the Daily as of April and will focus entirely on H4.

The now-called "Daily" account will become my R&D account and I'm planning to run the H4 strategy but (at least for April) will take all setups regardless of larger trend direction (the current rules require only trades in the direction of the trend, but I want to find out if this "matters" on smaller timeframes). I originally wrote the rules for Daily and H4 was just an experiment. It continues to evolve...
