Mmhhhh......

Just received the following via email from VantageFX
MetaQuotes have announced they are making several major changes to remove third-party software from functioning on the Empty4 platform. This could impact Vantage FX’s 2013 version of Empty4 as of Monday, the 15th of April, 2013.
A quick Google search only had two relevant link:

http://forexmagnates.com/a-major-server ... co-system/

Not sure what this all means, consider it an initial heads-up...

Jemook, maybe you can shed some light on this from the broker's perspective

Cheers / Mop

I got the same in an email just now from a vendor I know.

Might mean some brokers pulling their software ... or negotiating even better software for Empty4.

When you consider the vast array of add-ons/Scripts/EA and Custom Indicators ... this was always going to happen.

MetaQuotes might be within their rights, but unless they move with the times, then this will occur ... or ... another platform will spring up as the "People's Platform" to replace Empty4.

They wouldn't want that ... it's "adapt-or-perish" in my view.

From what I understand this impacts any Empty4 applications which have broker additions such as 1 click trading tacked on by default. We don't have any of those gimmicks as far as I know so nothing to worry about.

If I hear anything further though will let you guys know.

Cheers

Cheers for that Jem

I actually like 1-click trading. It's 2-clicks-faster ;)

Might be moot ... but it can really save pips in opening positions rapidly. But if it disappears, I won't cry about it.

Most of my trading is done long before I place the order anyway, by the 3-P's:

* pending
* pre-emptive
* proactive.

I use meta charting but not their order entry and as soon as I can get the indis I need converted to easy language. I will dump Meta4 all together and will be able to do everything on Trade Station. Infinitely better charting than Meta will ever be. Meta has shot themselves in the foot big time with this stupid move on their part. Sounds like the bean counters have taken over the marketing and are clueless to what they have done. Really stupid move on their part.
How much do you pay for TradeStation? And what brokers do have an API for TS?

Tradestation is totally FREE for forex. They don't support MQ4, and they don't support 0.01 lots, but other than that they're pretty darn good.

Below is a pm from retireme describing how to get rid of Liveupdate.exe.

Nice one, retireme.

:D
retireme wrote:Hi Steve,

WRT your PM below, they are a bunch of cunning bastards. Every instance of Empty4 installed on a computer will install 2 copies of the Liveupdate.exe. One is located within the program folder and the other under the User/AppsData folder. I will outline the fix to you and I will leave it up to you how far you publish it. Download "Everything" for Windows 2000, XP, 2003, Vista, 2008 and Windows 7, it is a small 300kb file http://www.voidtools.com/. Run it and search for "liveupdate" no extensions. Delete all files that start with liveupdate, including folders. Close "Everything" and restart platform(s).

I have deleted every reference to "liveupdate" and there is no effect on any of the platforms I use except to ensure the platform does not update.

Actually, the latest version of Empty4 includes one click trading as default (click the top left arrow in your screen to bring it down).

ok, spent some time with a member this afternoon to do a little layman investigation into the recent builds of Empty4. We all know that the MT5 was somewhat a flop as some functionality was very pro-Broker.... I will not go into this, those who are interested to a google search....

We all love our little Empty4 as it only does what we want it to do.... For a new installation, the broker provides a nice little installer that downloads everything from a server and installs it into a directory of your choice.... This installation comes with a few standard bits & bobs, default EA's, indicators, scripts, templates, profiles, whatever.... But nobody uses that stuff anyway, we add out own Eas, indicators, includes, DLL's - whatever tickles our fancy....

Do this little experiment - download an installer for Empty4 from any of the brokers, and install it to a different directory than your standard destination for the platform, preferably to a different drive (if you have one)....
1. Deselect the "Start the program after successful installation"(!) at beginning of installation!
2. Again, do not start the Empty4
3. Go into the installation directory and basically delete all the files that are installed by standard, not the ones directly below the install directory, only the files in the folders as per image attached. Do not delete the sub-folders either!
4. Now you start the newly installed Empty4, open a new demo account of your choice
5. Go to Options - Trade and deselect the One-Click Trading - see image
6. Restart the new platform
7. Now check the state of One-Click Trading under Options - Trade again - voila.....

For the record: I do not know whether the One-Click Trading function is put in by MQ or not!

Think about the following - MQ has designed a fairly decent piece of financial software (sure it is not perfect but it is free! and very, very customizable, if you CHOOSE to). All of the sudden, some parties in this game figured out how to add stuff to it that you, the user has not control over (see examples given in the links provided in my first post) - so what else is there, that we do not yet know about....

I have no idea who puts what into the installation routine of Empty4, but if 3rd parties have the possibility to mess with financial transaction software that is scary to me..... And I if I were the owner / programmer of Empty4 with all the liabilities this probably entails, I would probably react in a similar manner as MQ obviously has....

And you may now de-install this Empty4 version used for this little test..... Or you can just trust me - I did it for three different brokers who shall remain anonymous, the One-Click Trading does not seem to be calling a specific file the user may delete and I was not able to disable the add-on... it sits embedded in every chart you have opened, all the time.. doing what I wonder? To be quite honest, I wasn't even aware of the existence of this little add-on until today, never used it, never will have any use for it and I for one, dont want it in my Empty4....

Just my 2 pips / Have a great weekend / Mop

PS And I am reasonably sure that MQ will not torpedo their business model so a lot of the stuff flying around will prove to be over-done....

mob, that one click trading feature was introduced into Empty4 in build 482 (http://forexmagnates.com/Empty4-gets-one-c ... s-not-all/), its not a 3rd party addition.
