Hey guys,

I'm not a Programmer and have very little tech sense. Over the last few years I have had some trading ideas that I have had turned into EAs. Like most traders that get hold of a new EA, you get onto the Empty4 Strategy Tester and go through the motions of backtesting. Now with my EAs, I've had mixed results after countless hours of backtesting. I appreciate that there are varying opinions on the usefulness of backtesting, which I can understand. I have now revisited some of my EAs with a slightly different mindset, and now starting to see some much better results in my testing.

My question is, is there a better way, or more efficient way, to test EAs? For example, is there any software out there that can do the job of the Empty4 Strategy Tester, including optimization, but with far greater accuracy and speed. I realise forward testing is probably the best way to test, but when a lot of my stuff runs of the Daily charts, it can be a long time between trades.

I was actually seriously considering going onto oDesk or Elance to look for someone to do this for me, but had some not so pleasant experiences with people there that say they can do a lot of things, but at the end of the day, they basically told me some porky pies.

I'm thinking there has to be something out there better than Empty4 Strategy Tester, and if not, there maybe a market for it. Thanks.

Hello,

there is a new thread ongoing on STH by Douglas, based on his experiences with Strateqy Tester and StrategyBuilder, a free, opensource ea building and trade tester ea.

If you know the rules of your ea's you can set them up in Builder and this do bt's in a few seconds over years, there is also an optimizer.

Henric,

Thanks for that info and link. I'll certainly check it out. I should know the rules of my EAs as I was the one with the ideas, which I then had to explain in great detail to my Programmer. Cheers.
