It has emerged recently that Metaquotes have started throwing their weight around like bullies in the school playground. 6y588's thread about switching to CrapT5 has unearthed a lot of resentment.
To noobs, this may all seem a little strange. Empty4 has become widely known here as Empty4. The list of what it is unable to do is endless. The list of what it does badly is endless. It is utter rubbish. So, why does nearly everyone use it? Because:
- it is free.
- brokers provide it as our first platform, so we imagine that is because it is the best available and inexperienced traders investigate no further.
- we are hooked into it after a while because of the huge body of custom-coded software in the form of EA's, indicators and scripts.
This sub-forum invites members to discuss the issues and to present possible alternatives. Feel free to start your own threads containing evaluations of alternative platforms you have tried.
As I see it, there are two mahoosive hurdles to migrating to a new platform:
- Jem tells me it is not a simple matter of loading a platform, feeding it our account details and off we go. He can explain this properly.
- our huge investment in terms of time and testing, of all the software we now take for granted. I find it difficult to accept that there were the Dark Days pre-mptm.
Bit difficult to trade Bob's 10.5 without CSS. We would need a platform that allow us to port this stuff across with minimum adaptation. I may not even be able to find the wrong moon here, let alone bark at it.
No idea where this is heading; all we can do is explore the alternatives and take things from there.
