I have started to trade forex binary options on demo and I am very impressed with the exchange. It is fully regulated by the cftc of the US government. This is not a brokerage. You join the exchange when you become a member. There is no middle man. It is fee driven. If you live in the US you can join and it has been a revalation to me. This is not like the off shore binary dealers who really are just like internet casinos. I am so impressed I may move to trading options. Look up apexinvesting.com ... they have 20 or 30 videos available for free on the exchange. If anybody has any experience with Nadex I would be interested in hearing from them. |

I know there has been talk here about binary options. Nadex offers both binary and bull spreads both of which you can close out of at any time. I just wanted to give you an example as to how I find these different than what is usually thought of as binary options. The option was available Sell 06/04/13 23:22:44 1 USD/JPY >99.80 (3AM) @ 87.5 $-12.50 It cost me 12.50 in margin to purchase this option as a short. 87.50 is the maximum profit it can pay. I based my decision on direction on Bobs method and some of my own intraday strategy. Within the hour the position was profitable. It continued profitable all the way to expiration. However at any time I chose in this period I could have closed the position with the profit displayed. No loss. However I let the position go to expiration and it paid 100.00 or 100.00 minus my cost 12.50 which equaled 87.50. Yes the cost is included in the profit so it must be subtracted but the order told you that. You always know what your maximum payout can be and always know what you can loose up front. It is impossible to get stopped out of a position and the maximum you can loose is the cost or margin which is 12.50 in this case. You are not locked into a position. You can also get out of a position with a minimal loss. I could have got out of the position at -2.50 profit and that is all I would have lost if I thought I had made a mistake. The position can also go against you for a while but come back and be an ultimate winner. Still only risking 12.50. |

Up to 10:1 Garry. Apexinvesting has an educational relationship with Nadex and their videos are very good at explaining what Nadex is about. What its advantages are over the Bucket shops. Many hours of video on explaining the interface, Binaries, Spreads, and all the different strategies that can be used to trade them. These videos by Darrell Martin are very good and comprehensive. Some over 1 to 2 hours long. I am going through them now. Nadex is the only legal way in the US to trade Binary Options and Spreads. It is based in Chicago. The exchange has been around since 2004 but was bought by IG group a few years ago. |

I have been going through the videos. Very interesting what you can do with these spreads. You can hedge them and straddle them at the same time creating your own box spread so that you have a low risk and high reward trade if you can not find the right risk reward in a single spread. Like corn at one range of price of 790-810 and another spread at 800-820 with neither giving you a risk reward over 1-1 or even less . If current buy price on the top tier is 810.2 and Sell price on the lower tier 808.2 than you can do something we just cannot do in spot forex in the US. Hedge. But not only hedge create your own spread box with the risk just being the difference between 810.2 and 808.2 which is 2.0 or 20 ticks or 20 dollars in this case. So now you have a low risk trade where before you could not come up with a trade that was even greater than 1-1. So now I am not going to go into the math because watching the video would be simpler but if the position moves down even though you thought it would be a bullish move your profit potential is 80 dollars. If it moves up like you think it should the profit potential is 80 dollars and the risk is just 20 dollars. The only way you lose this 20 dollars is if the trade just does not go any where and stays in the pocket you might say of risk. You have reduced your risk and can now win going both directions as long as the trade moves but that is always a possible outcome. |

I have been watching many hours of video on Nadex and strategy to trade it. You can trade with Bull spreads just like you trade spot forex. However you get enormous effective leverage, Very defined risk, the ability to go both long and short in a straddle strategy for news, Get in or out at any time. Never get stopped out. Never have to give up on a trade because you have been stopped out for a loss. A complete end to those kind of mind games. The trade can go against you and come back to be a successful trade and the risk never changes. If it was 15 dollars to get into the trade it is 15 dollars the whole trade. If you go 100 tick or more the effective leverage just keeps on increasing. You can do with several hundred dollars what it would cost you trading spot with a broker a thousand dollars or more in margin to accomplish. There is a learning curve. However the amount and quality of the free video on trading the Nadex by Darrill Martin is sufficient to give you the grounding to trade it. In the end there is no other binary option exchange in the world like the Nadex. CFTC regulated. No middle man between you and the exchange and complete anonymity. Designed from the ground up for the retail trader. You get complete segregation of funds in major US banks and the complete transparency of trading on a regulated exchange. No more brokers for me. I will continue to trade with strategy trader demos and my penny account for fun but the advantage to trading the Nadex in the US over trading the Spot in the US is not even close. |

Doug, what's your strategy development plan with Nadex? Will you still use FSB for that? |

I will continue to use FSB on forex. I will help Popov with videos. I am still committed to automated strategies and EA development. However all my manual trading will be on the exchange. Option like binaries lend themselves to strategies that can make money in flat and trending markets. Any condition is a good trading day. |

Do you plan to use existing strategies and just apply them to binaries? E.g. get a long signal from 10.4 and buy a long binary instead of going long the pair? Or do you plan to apply different strategies, e.g. the spread strategy you mentioned? When I looked briefly at binaries, it seemed to me that you still needed a very clear edge. The market prices the options to account for any known conditions. Buy at the market price without a clear edge and you'll end up at breakeven, or worse with costs. What will you use for an edge? |

Gary there are a lot of strategies and you purchase a binary based on the strategy you have decided on. For example there are out of the money binaries (OOM), in the money binaries (ITM), at the money binaries and deep in the money binaries. Each of these lends itself to different strategies. For example buy below market ITM and sell above market ITM. The more narrow you make the window the less risk or cheaper cost but the less likely it is that the market will stay in the window. Widen the window and it cost you more but the more likely the market is to stay in the window. However it higher risk. Risk increase in proportion to the likely hold of a event occurring. So if most traders think an event is going to occur than a binary will be priced high. If it is less of a chance to occur than the price will be adjusted lower. So if you buy a 5 dollar binary the market is saying that if you buy it you have a 5 percent chance of winning. I am a really good horse racing handicapper and the crowd is only right about 30 percent of the time. So technicals are very important. But in this example you can see that we are not playing a direction but a range. One leg will still win if price strays out of the range. However the thing to realize is that price can come back into the range and you do not have to hold these options to expiration. You can get in at any time and out at any time. So make some profit and get out if you think the market is going to break loose. You can also always get out of a contract at less than risk just to minimize your risk. Take a few dollar loss over a 40 dollar loss for instance. This is a very simple strategy. Now think about adding another layer of strikes farther out or in above and below the market |
