This thread is now closed. Read why at http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... 211#p19211 For those of you new to all this, scooby-doo is a former pro trader with the big banks; the rest of us have been benefiting from his invaluable advice for a couple of years. squalou is a fantastic coder who has helped me out of a jam many times in recent years; you use his code every time you use the trading-hours function in my EA's (which reminded me that there was no appreciation in the shell code - I have put that right, sq). scoobs is responsible for my favourite trend-spotting method. He stated that a 20 period D1 Rsi identifies a trend:
In broad terms, sq's indi shows areas that represented support or resistance at some stage in the past. The more recent the better, but as a market approaches its all-time hilo, these areas become fewer and further apart. Turquoise represents the next area of resistance; brown the most recent support. It occurred to me a couple of weeks ago that I can use the indi in combination with Rsi trend-detection, so I came up with this:
Some detail:
Do not uses this software on live accounts just yet. Granted, there is not too much to go wrong with the coding, but remember my signature. It is not a joke. In addition to the Waiting EA's, I have created some trade-stacking software so that we can set up an EA to take the next x trades. There are coding problems involved with using a single EA to send multiple trades at multiple levels that are not necessarily the same distance apart. I have addressed this by creating two scripts and an EA. The scripts:
In conclusion So, there you go folks; I cannot think of anything else to add for now. I do not guarantee this will work for you. I do not guarantee that it will always work for me, but it has made a great start. Also, it strikes me that you can use sq's indi as the trigger, whatever is your setup. I do not envisage being able to automate this; it is purely a manual strategy with some automation to help get the trades in on time. |

Steve, Thank you again. If I didn't have two children to take care of (one born Jan Friday the 13th), I'd imagine I'd have enough time to automate this clever method of trading. I cannot wait to try this out Cheers, MichaelM |

Awwww. How is the sprog doing? Gaining weight nicely? Decent pair of lungs? You getting the occasional hour of sleep here or there? Got a photo you can post? Don't you dare go thinking about automating this (the system, I mean, not the sprog |

Steve, This is a good approach. However, I would also build in the following or create another EA if it doesnt already exist in your weaponary.... BUY or Go Long. 1. If the Trend is UP based on 20 Day RSI i.e. > 55 2. H1 breaks S1, S2 or S3 SELL or Go Short. 1. If the Trend is DOWN based on 20 Day RSI i.e. < 45. 2. H1 breaks R1, R2 or R3. ....also, build in recovery module or fixed SL. However, fixed TP/SL is a NONO as each pair has a specific range. Big clue there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Scoobs. |

Listen to Uncle Steve, Michael. Treasure the moments while you can. As the dad of a 14 and a 16 yr old, I can assure you life is much more fun while your kids still think you're God. Scoobs, do you use something like ATR to determine the correct range for each pair? Or does each pair have a different characteristic behavior? Mark Johnson, eh? Haven't heard from him for a while. He mostly trades futures, I think. Were you following a forex system of his? |

The problem with having an always-on EA here is reading sq's indi. Signals generated by his indi are based on the user's DaysBack input. sq does not store values in buffers (I think). The indi is a visual thingy and represents s/r by drawing fib lines. What is relevant is the next/previous s/r, not R1, R2, R3 etc That is why I do not think I can automate my idea - and if I cannot automate it, then who can? Thanks for your thoughts, even so. Please keep them coming. Pleeeaaasssseeee. Lots f us depend upon them. |

Wonderful, wonderful creatures, 14-16 year olds. They bring me endless entertainment. So long as I do not have to help with bringing them up. |

Haha, yes the little sprog (never heard of that one before!), he is growing everyday thinking poor Mum has an endless supply of milk. He is now actually settling down into a good sleeping routine that doesn't mirror a bats Yes, I see what you mean by trying to not automate this, I prefer semi-automated systems myself |
