Post subject:  Breaking Down a Custom Indicator
Hello all!

I am having some trouble and I was wondering if someone could help. I have a custom indicator that I want to input into an EA, but the problem is that I don't know the parameters as to what makes this particular custom indicator paint it's buy/sell arrows. I know it has something to do with 2 EMA's, RSI and another simple custom indicator, but the exact conditions escape me.

Is there any way to look at the code and be able to determine these exact conditions and parameters so that I can customize my EA better?

It depends on whether you have the source (mq4) file or not. If you have, then one of the indi coders here might be able to help you. It will not be me - indi code makes my eyes glaze over with incomprehension. I am merely posting here to draw attention to you.

You are left with the usual experimentation with iCustom and buffer interrogation if all you have is the .ex4 code. Good luck with that, if so.

Try posting the indi in your post 1 and see if anyone can help, so long as it is open source and so not subject to copyright.

Thank you Steve for drawing attention to it!

I appreciate all the help I can get. I do have the mql4 source file. I have attached it to this post.

Any help as to what parameters this indicator uses to draw it's arrows would be greatly appreciated! Or if you would like to point me in the direction as to how I find out, I would be thankful for that help as well.

Hi Tim,

Your code uses the "MBFX Timing.ex4" file, as a #resource. The logic for writing to buffer 3 and 4 (i.e. the green and red arrows) depends on this file, using a iCustom call. You didn't provide the mq4 file for this "MBFX Timing"-indicator. Using a quick Google search I found a version of this file on Forex-TSD, however this was/is a purebeam decompiled version. This is as far as I will go -- I am not touching or analysing decompiled code as this could well be copy protected code, which is strictly against the rules set out on this forum.

Just to confirm Rene's post.

SHF members must never post decompiled code, or expect help with an indi/script/expert that relies on a call to a piece of software in decompiled form. Non-coders will not recognise decompiled code, but coders do so immediately; it cannot be hidden that the code is decompiled from an .ex4 file. Publishing said code will probably infringe someone's copyright and so be illegal.

Best forget this and move on, Tim. You probably had a Crap Custom Abortion whose code we could at least investigate, calling another Crap Custom Abortion whose code is opaque. How much money do you want to lose on these thingies? Maybe you think that "Crap Custom Abortion" is an affectionate term I use to describe software that I value in reality? It isn't. I don't. It is crap.

There really is a lot of help here at SHF to turn you into a successful trader. Help offered up for free by unbelievably good contributors with gold-plated credentials. Just forget the bollocks and learn to trade, ok?
