SERIOUS WARNING
  • Most Forex traders lose all their money.
  • Using the robot posted here in trading Forex does not guarantee success.
  • Trading this robot could lead to serious financial loss.
  • Trading this robot without understanding its underlying trading strategies guarantees traders will lose their money.
  • This is not a set-and-forget ea; there is no such thing and anyone who tries to claim there is, is either stupid or lying. This ea requires frequent manual intervention.
  • At best, a trading robot is only 90% as good as the manual strategy it trades. At best. At worst, it can be much less effective. If the strategy is rubbish, so is the robot.
  • To trade this robot, you have to understand:
    • How to use EA's.
    • Bob's HGI indicator.
    • Bob's Currency Slope Strength indi.
MAKE SURE YOU READ THIS POST http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... 41#p111241 There was a Forex bloodbath on Jan 15th 2015 that you need to know about.

Intro

Holy Graily Bob in a MTF stack is the result of this pm from DigitalCrypto:
DigitalCrypto wrote:Hey Steve,

Have you messed with HGI multi-timeframe?

My thinking was something along the lines of m15 for signals and m5 for stacking positions then exit on the yellow wave on m15.

It seems dead simple but it also may be rubbish.

Your thoughts?

David
I have expanded this to include (optional) CSS, so visit Bob's thread at http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... =88&t=4735 to download a copy and read about it. You do not need a CSS indi on your chart or trading platform. The CSS lives inside the bot already.

You need Bob's Holy Grail Indicator. Download Bob's zipfile from http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... 45#p105045. You need a version of HGI in your Indicators Folder - the latest version is attached to Bob's post 1. Remember to change HGBnG's HGI_Name input to the name of the version you are using.

Newbie traders, you are the luckiest noobs in the history of the train wreck that is retail Forex trading. HGI is the culmination of about 6 years work by nanningbob. You can trade manually by sitting at your console reading a book and simply reacting to the HGI signals. This is the most exciting development in my 10 years experience of the train wreck. Just make sure you absorb "HGI and so-called 'repainting'" from further down this post.

Are you a confused newbie? Don't clutter this thread with requests for basic information - I will delete them. Ask instead at http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... 91#p105691 where friendly souls will help you out.

There are probably a few bugs as I coded this over the weekend and so could not test the code

Trading method
  • Optional: use CSS to give a directional bias to the HGI signals you will trade. Default: used on the D1.
  • Take the first trade as soon as a relevant HGI signal appears on the FirstTradeTimeFrame - default M15 but play around.
  • Once there is a trade open, examine HGI at the close of each StackingTimeFrame and stack trades as the signals arise:
    • Buys should only be taken if the new trade is the highest priced trade in the list.
    • Sells should only be taken if the new trade is the lowest priced trade in the list.
  • Close out everything when an opposite direction HGI appears on the FirstTradeTimeFrame - plus the option to close following a yellow wave.
MaxTradesAllowed
This is the maximum trades the EA will stick, including the initial one. The default of 5 is pure guesswork.

Stuff does not come much easier than this. Let's see if we can make it work.

That is all I can think of for now - I will edit this later as I think of thingies to add.

Have fun Ungals and Gals.

Manual intervention
To those of you with the occasional firing brain cell who are not too stupid and lazy to take any notice of anything I write: congratulations on reading this bit. You are in a minority. Read this post:
http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... 77#p119077 You will not be sorry that you did so.

HGI and so-called 'repainting'
Members new to all this have difficulty grasping the implications of this deceptively simple fact: The Holy Grail Indicator works in the here and now:
  • what happened on the previous candle is irrelevant.
  • what happened 5 minutes ago is irrelevant.
  • what happened on the previous tick is irrelevant.
The only thing that matters is what HGI is showing now. There is a problem with this and here it is: the indicator generates a signal. The conditions that generated the trade can change but the signal does not leave the chart until you refresh it by changing time frames or restarting the platform. Thus it looks as though the indi is 'repainting'.

It is not. When loaded, it cannot print a signal for trading conditions that do not exist. The fact that they existed 5 minutes ago is irrelevant; the indi works in the here and now and cannot know that they existed 5 minutes ago? 'Historic' signals are on the chart because the conditions that created them were still in place at the candle close; there is no way of telling how early in the development of that candle those conditions first came into being.

Got it? Tough if not because I do not care. What I do care about is being dragged here to read yet another whinge about 'repainting' by a dimwit too thick to understand the basic concept of 'here and now'. I shall delete posts about it - along with the writer if I am in a bad mood. Sorry to sound harsh, but I am doing some 'heading off at the pass' here.

Steve you are amazing! Thank you very much for this.

@All
This EA should be trading in a similar way we teach with Sema but without using Sema. It wasn't until I decided to browse HGI forums that I saw the pure genius in the HGI indicator which made our trading setups even more accurate and less prone to error. So please don't forget this work is only possible because of the brilliant coders and traders here at SHF.

WARNING: If you start saying crap like "The old version worked better than the new one" or asking for crap that is not included, or trying to change this into something it isn't etc etc etc I will ask Steve to lock this thread and throw away the key.

Markets change. Code gets updated to fix any possible bugs or oversights. We aren't perfect. That's why the version changes. If you are not running the latest version on post 1 then please don't be an idiot and say that something isn't working right. As a mariner I suffer fools even less than Steve. At least he is polite about it.

The only thing I want to see here are legitimate testing/bug reports. I will post again explaining the details of how this should trade so you know what to expect and how it should be setup.

If you have set files that are working well for you please feel free to share them and I will have them added to this post or the ones below for the benefit of others.

Visual Charts and Rules

I'm including the last trades I took last week on how I traded this exact setup with GBPJPY. I did close my final trade for 200+ pips before the close on Friday.

First short setup was taken when the Red Arrow appeared on M15. This matched my predicted entry although it appeared sooner than I would have traded it. I entered anyway for extra pips. Thanks Bob. I then got additional signals and add positions each time I got one. I finally exited on the M15 yellow wave.
Short Trades.png
The second set of trades were longs for a correction trade. I simply entered one time on M15 and subsequent times on M5, exiting when the yellow wave appeared.
Long Trades.png
The final trades of the day were taken when a new Down trend arrow appeared on m15. I entered only one time per the rules. I then added additional trades on every new red arrow on the way down. I don't like holding trades over the weekend. See CHF if you need to know why. So I exited for 200 pips and then a few more.
2 Short Trade.png
The beauty of this system is that this is exactly how you should be trading to be profitable, only adding to your winners and limiting your losers. So what to do about stops? I will leave that up to you. I have emergency stops at 30-40 pips per entry because it's GBPJPY and it likes to move. EURUSD would be smaller. When the position moves 30-40 pips in my favor I will manually break even the trade so it can't go against me. That break even stop feature is built into the EA OOTB. Also I prefer short trades over longs. My win rate increased 80% by trading only one direction.

It doesn't get any simpler than this in my opinion.

Again thank you Steve, Bob, Baluda, Milanese and Elixe and the many others for such a wonderful indicator. :clap:

Yes - the top down approach is exactly how many of the pros trade. Will give this a try manually this week!

Lets see.

I'm trying this two setfiles:
1 HGB-MTF M5-M15.set
2 HGB-MTF M15-H1.set
However, it's been showing "OUTSIDE TRADING HOURS" since yesterday's open, so no trades as of yet. (despite choosing 24 hr + Trade sunday Candle)

Also, note the discrepancy between the Timeframes in the setfile and the display (M5:M5).

Anyone else experiencing this issues too?

Post subject:  First bloop of the day

First bloop of the day folks. You will have noticed that the bot is not closing trades at the close of a candle that retains a contra HGI signal. That is one of my copy/paste/forget_to_edit thingies. Fix in 1a in post 1.

Self-fixers, copy this over the block of code starting at line 2241 - 2288:

Code: Select all

   if (OpenTrades > 0)//We only look for stacking trades when there is a trade open already.
   {
      static datetime OldLtfTime = 0;
      if (OldLtfTime != iTime(Symbol(), StackingTimeFrame, 0) )
      {
         OldLtfTime = iTime(Symbol(), StackingTimeFrame, 0);

         StackHgiStatus = hginosignal;

         //Buffer 0 holds a buy trend arrow - large green up
         val=GetHGI(Symbol(),FirstTradeTimeFrame,0,1);
         if(!CloseEnough(val,EMPTY_VALUE))
         {
            StackHgiStatus = Trenduparrow;
         }//if (!CloseEnough(val 1) )
         else
         {
            //Buffer 1 hods a sell trend arrrow - large red down
            val=GetHGI(Symbol(),FirstTradeTimeFrame,1,1);
            if(!CloseEnough(val,EMPTY_VALUE))
            {
               StackHgiStatus = Trenddownarrow;
            }//if (!CloseEnough(val 1)
            else
            {
               //Buffer 7 holds a wavy trend - blue squiggle
               val=GetHGI(Symbol(),FirstTradeTimeFrame,7,1);
               if(!CloseEnough(val,EMPTY_VALUE))
               {
                  if(Bid>val)
                     StackHgiStatus = Wavebuytrend;
                  else
                     StackHgiStatus = Waveselltrend;
               }//if (!CloseEnough(val 0) )
               else
               {
                  //Look for a yellow range squggle.
                  //Buffer 6 holds a wavy range - yellow squiggle
                  val=GetHGI(Symbol(),FirstTradeTimeFrame,6,0);

                  if(!CloseEnough(val,EMPTY_VALUE))
                  {
                     StackHgiStatus = Waverange;
                  }//if (!CloseEnough(val 0) )
              }//else
            }//else
         }//else
      }//if (OldLtfTime != iTime(Symbol(), StackingTimeFrame, 0) )

   }//if (OpenTrades > 0)

HGB only reads the stack time frame at the close of each candle and so the shift needs to = 1 not 0.

This is how I set my time for testing.
terminal_2016-06-06_04-37-39.png

The comment section is no big deal. Steve can patch that easy enough. He wrote this in like 2 minutes. The EA is working correctly.

I also disabled CSS for testing purposes.

1) Check your MondayStartHour input parameter, default is 8 (local time).

2) Print this above line 711 to solve M5, M5 issue.
TradingTimeFrameDisplay = GetTimeFrameDisplay(FirstTradeTimeFrame);
