Hey guys,

Thought I'll share a way how to save your Empty4 platform on USB stick or cloud (i.e. dropbox) with all your existing EA's, indicators, templates etc. Probably for many of you it's gonna be obvious and you might already know and use it, but hopefully it can help to someone.

We all know Empty4 platform isn't very stable or reliable and often it might just crush for no reason and you might lose all your templates, charts with EA's or indicators. It happened to me recently out of the blue. Re-arranging your charts is painful and frustrating job. And very time consuming.
This also applies to VPS server crashes (imagine if you have 10 Empty4 platforms with different setups). This can also serve as an extra safety measure in case of VPS server crash, you will be able to login to platform and close your positions.

First you need to create portable terminal to be able to load it on anther machine:
1. File -> Open Data Folder -> cut all the folders and paste to directory folder of your Empty4 terminal (Program Files by default) replacing the existing ones. It is advisable to close Empty4 platform prior to that as you need to delete all the files from Data Folder.
2. Now cut your Empty4 folder in Program Files and upload it to your cloud or USB stick.
3. Now you can get an access to your platform with all your settings and configurations from other device or VPS. Login to cloud, open Empty4 folder and create a shortcut of terminal.exe file to your new device. Then go to Properties of that shortcut, and on the Target add 'space' and write /portable (...terminal.exe" /portable):

4. You've created portable terminal that can be loaded from any folder on any Windows system. All changes will be saved on your cloud.

Pros:
*You have access to all your terminals with latest settings and configurations in one reliable place.
*Access from any place or device.
*Instant switch of work to other device.
*Save of time and energy.
*Extra safety measure in case you need to close or modify your positions.

Cons:
*Might be difficult to set up for non experienced computer users.

Very useful advice indeed. I had three computer crashes mid to late last year. I never thought this would happen to me. I lost many Ea's, indicators, templates and setfiles, and this was over years and years of building up.

I have become a doomsday prepper for this scenario and update my Usb stick all the time.

Hey Wavegarrick,

Thanks for a kind words. Hopefully you'll never experience this anymore.
The beauty of a cloud against USB stick IMHO, firstly you don't have to carry your stick all the time and you don't need to update anything. All your changes are stored directly on a cloud's directory and you can enter the same terminal from anywhere :)

This looks fantastic but being new to Empty4 and a non-techie. I need your help to clarify this:

1. File -> Open Data Folder -> cut all the folders and paste to directory folder of your Empty4 terminal (Program Files by default) replacing the existing ones

1. Does cut mean copy?
2. Directory folder is the C: (drive) - Program Files - Empty4 4 folder right?
3. What does (Program Files by default) mean?
4. When do you delete all the folders and files in from the Open Data Folder?

I would greatly appreciate your help. Thank you.

Hey stocksrus411,

1. Cut means cut :) If you choose cut, when pasting it deletes selected data. You can choose copy/paste option if you prefer, then close the terminal and manually delete all folders from Open Data Folder.
2. Correct, by default it's there, unless you have chosen different path when installed your platform.
3. When installing Empty4 platform, by default path looks like this: C:\Program Files (x86)\Global Prime - Empty4 4.
4. If you cut/paste then it deletes folders from Open Data Folder when you paste. Make sure your terminal is closed.

Hope that clarifies your questions and let me know if you have any further ones.

Hi again,

Thank you for the info. But, I'm sorry I have to bother you one more time.

First I was successful in cut and paste and uploading to my USB and creating a short cut of the Empty4 terminal exe on the computer per your instructions. It worked :clap: :clap:

However, I cant' seem to cut and paste and upload to my Google drive. For the USB, I right clicked the cut and paste Empty4 folder in C:Program and use the "Send To" to upload to my USB. But I can't see a Google drive when I right click in the "Send To" list.

Can you please explain in step to step how to do it for a cloud like Google drive? I already installed Google drive in my computer. Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Please help. Thank you again.
