Hello everyone,

I learnt about trading about 2011. After being unsuccessful in manual trading, I turned into algorithmic trading with some recent successes by writing my first algorithms in VBA and Python.

After backtesting a stat arb strategies on the forex market, I made a MQL4 programmer to code my execution algorithm in order to do some forwardtesting and live tests for those strategies.

I was wondering if some MQL4/C# programmer would be interested to code a bridge between Empty4 and Python, in order to execute the algorithm in Python and passing the orders on the Empty4 broker.

Python is much more simpler, easier and quicker to learn that MQL4 and it is a good programming language to learn first in our own coding journey.

Besides, Python being opensource makes it easier to find algos allover the internet on different sites (quantopian and quantconnect for example).

I have a friend who's working with me right now to code a strategy with Python. We may eventually make a bridge but I'm not sure yet, we haven't talked a whole lot about integrating a platform

Hi there !

The easiest way would be to make an EA on Empty4, that listen for either tcp/queue message, or the simple version, a text file in a specific folder to execute commands.

So the python algorithm would produce a file for each operation (send order, modify order, close order, etc ...)
And the Empty4 EA would read each file in order of creation/filename.

Shouldn't be too hard !

The best way forward for you is to first run your Python "EA" with either Oanda or Interactive Brokers, who both offer Python APIs (See: OandaPY and IBridgePY). This way you can see see if your strategy/algorithm has legs. Trouble is though that you are stuck with Oanda or IB. If you want use a Empty4 br0ker, you might want to have a look at ZeroMQ and particularly the mql-zmq bridge by Li Ding, as a possible interface between Empty4 and Python.

Hi,

A while back, I started a thread where I shared some Python scripts I coded using the Oanda REST API and Oandapy:

I apologise for the quality of coding on these - I'm only an amateur coder and they're quite clunky, but they get the job done.

Lately, I've been working on something along the lines of Steve's MPTM, but written in Python Oandapy/HTML5. My idea is to put all the various options for trade and basket management (set pending orders, nuclear closure, close basket on percentage etc.) into a web app, which should work alongside and add more functionality to the existing Oanda fxTrade app. FxTrade is great for some things but quite limited for others, so hopefully the web app will add that missing functionality.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions/ideas regarding Python, I personally love the workflow of the language.

Hello all,

And thanks for all the ideas, I am going to dive into it in order to code some MQL4 and Python codes for testing purposes.

Some algorithmic sites (QuantConnect) have some bridges in-house, I want to make my own in order not to be depending on some sites or brokers. My goals are not to do some latency arbitrage, but run my algos without the limitations of MQL4 backtesting and mathematical formulas.

I am going to read the threads proposed and to research the proposed ideas.

Checked it out, but even with the all that it can do, it is above my skill level until I learn a lot more.

With adding this feature, the already dead-sure billions will become gazillions. And therefore the price for the EA just went from $999.99 to $2,999.99.
