TDesk companions
TDesk companions like Viewer and Player didn't get enough resonance to post them publicly any more, although in my eyes they are very valuable to tame all those TDesk settings. However, these tools are now exclusively available for you as members of this thread.
Starting with version 4, TDesk is able to collect and save the signal history together with the settings prevailing at that time. The data granularity is one minute and it is written to disk each hour to a file that holds all data for the current day. The data is as compact as possible and will only eat up less than 200 MB for 28 pairs per year. Data will be written at a random minute within each hour to distribute load.
Why do we need that? Seeing EA entries and exits on a chart is one thing. Seeing the detailed state of the entry and exit signal calculation is different and can help strongly to adjust strategies. I personally love visual backtesting and adjusting parameters to what I see. Should we enter earlier? Should we stay in for a longer time? We can answer these questions much easier if we see how a system reacts internally to the price action.
TDesk Viewer simply reads the stored TDesk history and displays it like an indicator in a sub-window. TDesk Player lets you simulate the outcome of different settings in TDesk. The visuals are very similar:
- The background color shows the Super Signal state over time.
- The two thicker lines show the Solo Signal and Multi Signal progress over time.
- The thin lines show the Solo and Multi Signal thresholds.
- The thick lines at the top or bottom of the graph show the Veto Signal status.
- The thick lines below the graph show the entry and exit strategies.
The settings of both tools should be self-explaining. Play around a little to get used to them. Some notes:
- Both tools are only offered as compiled code and will expire together with TDesk.
- Of course you will see nothing until there is a TDesk history on your disk. So let TDesk run for a while before you use these tools.
- They can draw entry and exit arrows in the price chart. This interferes a bit with the TDesk arrows drawn there. You can use the script below to selectively delete TDesk Arrows.
- They can color the price chart background according to the Super Signal. If you let both tools do that, they overwrite each other. So allow only one to color the price chart background.
- Both tools are not mandatory to have them on your trading charts. On low-powered machines, rather use them on demand than adding one or both to your TDesk template.
TDesk helper scripts
Attached are two scripts to help you with TDesk and his tools. Arrows Eraser lets you selectively delete all the objects TDesk has probably drawn in your price charts. History Deleter lets you delete TDesk history up to a certain day to keep your disk tidy.
Remarks
If you think more details about any of the components should be explained here, don't hesitate to ask your questions in this thread. I will add more information if needed. But keep in mind that these tools are for users with a basic understanding of TDesk (who at least have read the documentation). Noob questions about TDesk will not be answered and could cap your knees.
