Dear all, Since two weeks I run Slopey Peaky Desk as described in viewtopic.php?f=106&t=5681 It makes very decent profits! And since it runs 24/7 on my pc I noticed that, after a restart the memory usage is normal: Empty4 uses +/- 4Gb of the 16 Gb available. But then, the memory usage starts creeping up until all RAM is used. Moreover, the Paged Pool memory grows and grows. In the attached screenprint: to 22 Gigabyte. This makes the PC very slow and nearly impossible to run other programs. Has anyone else has this issue ? Thanks and best regards, Ludo |

Nope. On my machine terminal.exe running Slopey Peaky Desk, TradeReport and Trade2MySQLConnector needs 250MB no matter how long it is running. Did you ever check which process is eating your memory? |

Thanks for your reply. It seems to be a local problem with my PC then. I would have been surprised that a masterpiece like TDesk would do any harm :D So I carry on with my research here. Best regards, Mit freundlichen Grüßen, Ludo |

Does this suggest something to you? Just in case not, then I restart my machine at least once a day. My Sky Q box/tv combo packs up from time to time. I switch off at the mains, switch back on again and follow the instructions. Computers need restarting from time to time. |

After umpteen hours of Googlemania: Half of the Windows world reports the issue. In my case, a program " Wise Folder Hider" seemed to be the culprit . The problem disappeared after removal of the offender. I should have done my research before posting here. Errare humanum est . |

I feel your pain. Back in the early 1980's when 32 kb (yes, that really is kb) of memory was considered all that would be needed, I was learning COBOL i.e.Common Business Oriented Language - one of the earlier high level languages. I was designing software to help with the running of my piano teaching business, About every six weeks I would have to reformat the hard drive after the computer stopped working, reinstall the operating system (which I think was MS DOS, having just won the battle for supremacy with DR DOS) and start again. <As an aside, anybody here remembering those bad ole days of MS DOS AND DR DOS, and the need to access files and folders with monumental command line entries? No? You are lucky, I promise.> I do not remember how I discovered that the benighted bloody compiler was sending a fresh copy of the source code to a hidden folder, but eventually I did. Having discovered this, a daily visit the the hidden folder and deletion of the 'saved' files solved the problem. Of course, this would have been described in the 'documentation' but said docs were written by technical geeks with no ability to communicate in English. They were useless. Was the compiler a Microsoft product? Of course it fucking well was. This was just the start of my long battle with this company of idiots. Glad you found this particular piece of lunacy, thomasmore . |

Steve, You were spoiled with 32 k of memory. My first computer was a Sinclair (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZX81) 1 Kb (that is O N E) of ram. Graphics mode: 64 by 48 pixels on a black and white tv. The only TV in the house, a lot of protest of all family members. Data storage on a cassette player @ 250 bits per second. |

I had one of those. I could do bugger all with it. Then in 1982 came the breakthrough that leads to us being here now. Think about the enormity of that once you have read this. I played my first big concerto for my first big performing fee. I invested the fee in the Latest BigThingy, a BBC B computer and associated printer. Total cost around £800. Think about it. £800 back in 1982. This also had storage on a cassette player. A year or so later came the 5.5 inch external floppy drive. It was bliss. I was writing my piano teaching business software in BBC Basic as the language was back then. I was used to the BBC B going, "Bleep" and when pressing the 'On' button, it leaping into life and being ready to do stuff. Post BBC B came the next machine - cannot remember what it was called. On going to the local computer shop to purchase it, I was instead persuaded to buy the first of the 'next level of computing', a Personal Computer. It did at least promise a level of RAM that would make my BBC B look silly. And started my unending loathing of Microsoft. Ye Gods, but the documentation was incomprehensible. It wittered about trees, roots and all sorts of other drivel. It made as much sense to me as I would make reading Shakespeare (which defeats me) in Swahili. This was before the internet, so documentation was in physical form. There were at least huge folders of the stuff. It looked impressive. I assumed I was an idiot (OK yes. No need for further comment folks). I would read this sort of garbage in reference to what we would now easily understand as a description of a function such as CountOpenTrades(): DoDomethingUtterlyOpaque(arg, arg, arg, something else utterly unintelligible, carry on with this bollocks to your hearts'content) What the hell was an 'arg' is what I constantly asked myself? Yes, I know now, but I hadn't a clue what those morons were describing back then - and I had passed a few parameters to BBC B functions back then, and knew the difference between a Subroutine and Function - just guarding myself against someone else of my advanced age remembering the same. As I recall, it took me two weeks to get the damn machine to run a program. I have never forgiven MicroFuckingSoft or AlanFuckingSugar. I eventually made the damn thingy run. I paid a silly amount of money for a COBOL (Common Business Oriented Language) for a COBOL package that would allow me to rewrite my piano teaching business software - £600 in about 2001. I was well shafted again by MicroFuckingSoft. Then, courtesy of a pal with access to pirate software that would not cost me £8,000 (yes, it was stupidly expensive back then) came Visual Basic 5. My PC's gained power. We are well in to the 2000's now. For reasons best known to their deepest, daftest, demented inner selves, MicroFuckingSoft released Visual Studio. I rewrote my software again. These days, I teach the piano in school and have only a tiny private practise, so I have let the software go and will not rewrite it. I was actually persuing a MicroFuckingSoft Software Developer Engineer course when the financial crash hit in 2008. And yes, the 'course' was ridiculously expensive. Hey ho. Never, ever pursue paid for course unless you can verify that it is being offered by a genuine University with credentials that stand up to the closest scrutiny. Then post them here so we can go into them big time. I had already taken an interest in Crpqk4 and so immediately thought that I could make a fortune in trading Forex. The rest is our history. |

Apart from me not beeing able to play an instrument, (one of the greatest regrets in my life),this is more or less the story of our journey through the wild west years of IT. Lately, I showed an 8" floppy, the version that would hold a baffling 256 Kb and double-sided (!!!) to my 12 and 14 year old grandsons. They performed the popular acronym ROLFLMAO. |

Too bad I didn't keep the first program I ever coded. It's size was 70 punchcards. |
