| Post subject: | T101 Revisited |
Hi, As Steve and many others here may know, I am a huge fan of the T101 methodology of trading. Keeping this as short and sweet as possible, I have been trying for some time to find a way to automate, or at least semi-automate a form of the system. I have be working with the offline chart indicators and so far the best and easiest system I’ve found to trade manually is the one presented by Kos in the FF thread “Indicators development for T101’s not very simple method”. However, the various timeframes to reference and the various behaviours to watch for leave too much for intuition making coding a set of rules a nightmare and perhaps not possible. There was however an EA offered (coded by Disbellj and altered by Kos) that I have been playing with and through much testing have found what appears to be somewhat of a “sweet spot” as far as timeframes etc. (it uses the VQ7mtf indicator). I have not tested long enough to make a highly conclusive finding but having run the EA without interruption for 2 weeks using the 15m trend time frame and the 5m signal time frame I’ve obtained some fairly impressive results seeing a gain of about 25% with little drawdown. I think the EA can be improved a lot with a few modifications. First I believe a time filter could keep us out of trouble during flat periods that tend to eat pips. Would be good if the time filter can be set to (1) at the start of trading hours to trade immediately the current signal or (2) at the start of trading hours to trade the next signal. At the end of trading hours the EA would simply run the current trend as usual and take no further trades until the next start time. Also there’s a whole multitude of basket toys in Steve’s tool pouch that could be implemented help to hang on to pips. I’m also thinking to implement some way to take profit on a breakout, then re-enter in the same direction after the pullback. There are many ways to accomplish this but which one is best, BB, TMA etc?? For anyone who is interested in having a run with this I have attached the EA along with the offline chart indicator. You need to attached the indicator to a high tick chart and be sure to attach it to all time frames you want to use with the EA since it uses a mtf indicator. Then you need to open the resulting offline charts along with a high tick online chart which you will run the EA on. Notes for development: The EA can absolutely be improved on as mentioned above, I suggest trying the 5/15 timeframe along with any others you think may produce results. Other similar indicators are also available provided by zznbrm in FF which are apparently a bit quicker and take less resources – perhaps the good coders here can have a look at them – maybe even create an option in the EA to be able to select which one to use (VQ indicators uploaded below). As is, the EA has the VQ7 indicator built in. The offline chart indicator attached has been updated to include chart ticks so in future EA development, the EA could actually run directly on the offline chart. The offline chart indicator needs to be completely reworked. Stevesouders brilliantly stated the issues in the FF forum and I quote him: I am very interested in the Basket Trading Method and the use of this indicator: t101_indy_pricehistory_v3-dnk_donfix14_hopfi2k_zero_div_fix tick_fix.mq4 However, in trying to create a good system utilizing the "Highs & Lows" of the candles has proved difficult as I have noticed a problem with the indicator. Place it on a 5 Minute chart and create the 5Minute Offline Chart...Now watch every tick for 5 minutes and you will see what I am talking about. As the price goes up the you will see the "Wick" extend further up than the price actually goes, thus giving a misconception of what the "High" actually was; as the price never really went that high. The same is true of the "Wick" which shows the "Low" as it will extend downward faster than the price actually goes down, and thus will show a Lower price than was ever actually achieved. [Please watch it and see for yourself] You will also see if you place your cursor on the Candle it will show the "Open, Close, Low, High" the Open & Close are correct just as they are on the Candle, But the "LOW & High" show the incorrect values that were created with the over zealous wicks. In order for any of us to advance with Basket Trading using this Indicator, these anomalies MUST be corrected. I would really appreciate it if one of the professional coders reading this Thread would take the time to look into the code and see if it can be corrected. Additional Thoughts: If we do not correct it, It will also throw off the accuracy of any Indicator that you place on that chart, because the chart is incorrect. If anyone can offer assistance in rebuilding the offline chart indicator it would be a great start to a better foundation for everything related to this system. I personally cannot code, so a big thanks to anyone who can contribute - I do believe there can be rewards in this for all; please find the current EA and all indicators below. Telac |

Hi Telac, thanks for opening this thread. U have attached more than one VQ indicator. Which one is needed for the EA to run properly ? I don't know if u are aware of this but in GVC's Basket Trading thread over at FF ( http://www.forexfactory.com/showthread.php?t=284191 ) there was an improved offline basket indicator posted by himself which is not such a cpu hog like the one u attached. Perhaps this inidi doesn't have the problems u mentioned. Link : http://www.forexfactory.com/attachment. ... 1315291550 Its for 8 Pairs but it can be changed to 14 if you like to trade the original T101 pairs. There are some more indicators in that thread GVC is using to trade the basket, which KOS uses too to trade. Looking forward to this EA development, i think basket trading can be very profitable. greetings, tex |

Hi Tex, Thanks for the info, I had not previously seen that thread. By what I see however those offline indicators are still derived from the same basic code as the one I posted though I will look into it further. Regarding the EA - it does not require an indicator, it is built in. It contains the VQ7 indicator. I just posted the others so coders could have a look at them and if they are better possibly implement them. Cheers GG |

I'm sure you have seen the version posted by Pat on the T101 Basket Trader by John. This is a lot less CPU intensive and i used if for basket 8 trades though recently i have been distracted by other systems. Hope this helps Mike |

Hi Mike, Yes, I've seen and used Pat's indicators - they are indeed less CPU intesive but unfortunately have the same exact issues as the other indicator. GG |

Tex, I've been running the indicator you suggested and I may need to go back on my words, it does look better than the others. I'll be watching it a bit more and directly comparing and will let you know - looking nice so far! GG |

Hi Can anyone explain to me how the currencies in each of the different baskets are chosen ? I have had some success with 14 pairs over the last few months but don't really understand why is it just that they usually travel in the same direction ? Many Thanks Martin |

Read this thread Martin. It explains the concept of the system and how the pairs seem to eventually distil into a natural order. http://www.forexfactory.com/showthread.php?t=107119 |
