so I just found something interesting.

yesterday I installed metatrader4 on a VPS with amazon AWS (EC2 t2.mirco instance). i saw someone else tried this and failed, but i thought i'd give it a crack for fun. with the promise of a free VPS for 12 months and 24/7 forward test, it was worth trying.

soooo. it all started smoothly until i started getting the error -> indicator is too slow, XXXXms, rewrite the indicator please. that's running HGB on 28 pairs.
obviously not enough CPU power to run it. CPU usage in Resource Monitor was above 70% and peaking at 100%.

so i left it overnight and came back to it this morning. CPU usage had dropped massively and HGB was working smoothly again.

to cut a long story short, if I have Empty4 maximised, it uses A LOT more CPU and will keep climbing until it maxes out. minimise it to the taskbar and the CPU drops to below 1%. not sure why, but im guessing it's got something to do with the graphics? maybe a bug in the code? i noticed CPU really started spiking as soon as some orders were opened.

in conclusion.. it looks like it is possible to run Empty4 on the free amazon AWS service! with 14ms latency to GlobalPrime demo too!

i will write a tutorial on how to set it up and post in a new thread if anyone is interested. would be great if we can get a few people to setup HGB to do forward tests with different settings.

I've been running a demo Empty4 instance on my Amazon VPS for about a week now. With 8 or 10 pairs running HGB + trade manager, it runs at about 15-20% CPU load maximized. I'll try your tip on running it minimized tonight and see if the CPU utilization drops for me. I like the idea!

It's fun running on a VPS as I can run a terminal app on my ipad and have full Empty4 access with EAs and all on the Ipad from anywhere. It's not perfect but it works very well.

I think this is a great idea. We could post a weakly Trade report for all trades + each trade type separately and also a myfxbook trade log would be nice to be able to compare in the meantime. I guess it would be best to use the same broker to make the results totally comparable. I guess this would be Global Prime?
We just need some participants, have to find an agreement for everybodies settings and could start on monday / sunday night

I think you are getting confused between the different demos I have runnng. The 2g demo I started on Tuesday with the same settings as Steve is up about 2,400 pips, which I think counts as at least pretty good

Saw this today on my RAD trades. My minimum lot size with my UK spreadbetting account is 0.1 (which equates to 0.10p per pip). With the default lot sizes and multi lot sizes set to 0.01 in the ea I had missed setting my RAD multi trades to the required 0.1 minimum. Probably coincidental but that was when my same level RAD muli-trades were fired (even though strangely, they were all opened at the correct minimum 0.1) - other trade types set to the 0.1 minimum fired ok. Since correcting the multi lot size to the correct minimum value I haven't seen the problem since. Like I say, probably not related at all, but dunno, maybe worth the mention ...

Shouldnt really matter, because the EA should correct the lot size automatically to the minimum.
I was using correct min lotsize, and encouter the multiple trades somethimes..
it happens with both single and multi entrys.
Noticed that for those double trades there is no screenshot taken.

A couple pages back I mentioned that there are'nt always screenshots taken.
Dunno why yet.. Sometimes I only have a close screenshot and not the open one.

Hopefully, I will be able to work on my new project toda.

yep i agree. do you think it warrants its own thread? 'The Great HGB forward test' or something like that. lets see what the mods say.
global prime is probably the best option. a monday start is quite soon, perhaps itd be better to try coordinate it for a week, let everyone get setup, agree on the settings and then let it rip. it will be easier to compare if everyone starts at the same time and the more people involved, the better. myfxbook is definitely a good idea too.

Right, monday is be a bit too soon. I too think a separate thread would be a good idea for more clarity and easier coordination.
