Holy Graily Bob's Candle Power

EA's inspired by nanningbob's work here, especially those based on his 240 Moving Average trend detection filter.

I think what would supercharge this EA is if we added :

1) the "New HGI MTF history indicator" ie The HGI filter but with other time frames as well eg
If 60 , 240 & 1440 confirming trade direction .

2) a lot multiplier ie where the lot size increases by a multiplication factor

3) the filter where it only allows 2 currencies to trade at a time

Re 1): I highlighted Tomas' new indi in my wrup last Sunday before playing with it - school musical week took all my attention. I bumped it because Thomas is a genius and had posted it. I got around to looking at it briefly on Wednesday evening and was thrilled by its potential. SHF members will be un-stunned by my revealing that I have already coded an EA inspired by it and plan releasing it later today. I will be happy to add the code here should it look as though it will help.

Re 2): I am not a mind reader and have no idea how your multiplier would work. Explain yourself properly and prove that your idea would be helpful, and I will consider it.

Re 3): there are a number of anti over-trading features in all my EA's. Use them.

Read the effing manual, ok?

Afterprime is the official SHF broker. Read about them at https://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=175790#p175790.

I still suffer from OCCD. Good thing, really.

Lot Multiplier
Multiplies the last lot value.
Example:

LotMultiplier = 2.0
Lot Size = 0.10

1)We have a open BUY trade of 0.10 lots .
Next BUY signal BELOW the last order value is triggered a new BUY position is opened = 0.20 lots ( 0.10 x 2.0 )
Next BUY signal BELOW the last order value is triggered a new BUY position is opened = 0.40 lots ( 0.20 x 2.0 )
etc

2)We have a open SELL trade of 0.10 lots .
Next SELL signal ABOVE the last order value is triggered a new SELL position is opened = 0.20 lots ( 0.10 x 2.0 )
Next SELL signal ABOVE the last order value is triggered a new SELL position is opened = 0.40 lots ( 0.20 x 2.0 )

This is a HIGH RISK HIGH RETURN strategy so there must be some controls .
There must be a maximum number of trades allowed option and that is why I requested a maximum of 2 currency trades allowed at a time . There used to be two controls called "UseZeljko" & "OnlyTradeCurrencyTwice" that used to deal with this in the old EA's but couldn't find them in the new EA.

Many apologies. I assumed they were there as usual because I used one of my shells to write the EA. They were not needed in the original EA because it was an always-in trader and control was exercised by limiting the number of charts it was trading, so I removed them. CP has moved a long way from its original concept, so I will add them.

Now is as good a time as any to point out to noobs that those safety features provide a sense of false security. They are better than nothing, but will often fail. Sandovich knows all this. This is for those of you who do not know it.

Trades taken show up in our trade window immediately so we think that all is well; this is a mirage. They do not arrive in the crapform's memory banks until the broker's server sends a return receipt and this receipt is received by the crapform. This can take some time - the reason for the PostTradeAttemptWaitSeconds input that prevents an EA sending a new trade at every tick until the return receipt arrives.

We see the trades in out trade window. EA's search the crapform's memory for existing trades. These do not exist so far as an EA is concerned, until the return receipt arrives. Imagine this scenario. I will re-introduce the minimum margin for trading filters and your minimum is 500%:
  • CP sends a GJ trade. This trade will cause the minimum margin to be breeched.
  • The return receipt takes a while to arrive. In the meantime, CP spots the opportunity to send a trade on a different chart, sees that there is sufficient margin for trading, yells "Yippee. Time to party" and sends a trade.
This process can be repeated several times until the return receipt arrives for the initial trade. There is no filter that anyone here can imagine that will overcome this. I did not know all this when I first coded the over-trading filters. They work most of the time; they will often fail. There is bugger all I can do about it.

Re the lot size thingy, sorry but I have no interest in this. It is a disaster just pleading to happen.

Hello.

I have uploaded a new version of "Thomas' CP dashboard" to post 1. The repeated auto-opening of the same charts as well as charts sometimes not auto-closing should be gone now.

Changes: Some code streamlining in the "void ChartAutomation(...)" and "void OpenChart(...)" functions together with two new inputs: "OpenChartsInBackground" jumps back to the dashboard after auto-opening of a chart, "CloseUnusedCharts" lets you completely disable auto-closing if you have other things running in your terminal.

DIYers, just copy those two functions over the old ones and add the two new inputs.
Happy pippin, Thomas :-BD

It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble.
It's what you know for sure that just ain't so.

Holy Graily Bob's Candle Power

Post by Wavegarrick »

Hi Guys,

As usual I am slow to the party :) .Well I like to get in when most of the teething issues have been sorted out. This also gives me an opportunity to test various combinations over shorter periods.

I have great faith in this strategy and I believe that Steve has given us powerful tools, I am going with the following set for a few reasons.

Superslope on the daily timeframe is a powerful tool if used correctly. There are many fakeys that occur in this vicinity. When there is a change in trend direction you want a decent pullback, but still with superslope in the intended direction.

What better tool than Peaky to show us this.

I am quite happy letting Steve's offsetting method sort out imbalances.

Tomorrow is BOE with their interest rate decision and Nfp on Friday. Nevertheless I have this set loaded. Will be a good time for me to see its performance.

Tomele's Dashboard is a great tool for me to see where I should load the Ea. Quite obvious, I am doing this manually for the time being as I do not want a myriad of trades all at once.

I do not guarantee success but sure as heck feel I have an edge.

Many thanks to all the great contributors here and If you do decide to test, feel free to add suggestions as well as your results.
All used with the latest versions with Hgb candle power and Thomas's dash.. I'll report my tests once a week.
Cheers
Leon

My pleasure Tony.

Some points to be aware of:

-There will be times of drawdown.
-There will be times that manual intervention is necessary.
- I have mostly concentrated on the majors. Currency cross pairs are still an unknown for me, but will explore them slowly.
- It is important not to have too many pairs on the table.
- My unbalanced positions are set at 5. The ea will trail (jump stop) positions as long as the difference between buy and sell positions are within 5. The downside here is that the ea will merrily take profit with the jump stoplosses being hit leaving a significant distance from the buy or sell trades in the opposite direction which will result in drawdown. It is only when the retrace occurs with peaky lining up with superslope that we will get trades again and hopefully with a smaller drawdown or best case scenario a profit.
- Decreasing the unbalanced positions to 3 for example the ea will look to recover quicker if there are buys and sells on the table.
- Possibly look at decreasing the hedge profit when we are in recovery mode. The quicker we get out of both buys and sell the better for us to move on.

Anyway these are things I am still playing with.

Cheers

Hi Guys,

I just realized that I made a terrible mistake with the setfile that I posted here. How I managed this I do not know.

The Peaky timeframe must be 1 Hour not 5 minutes :arrrg:

Many apologies.

Cheers
Leon
